One of America’s favorite pastimes is watching TV. Watching TV is not one of my favorite pastimes, but when I watch TV I’m usually watching reality TV shows. Duck Dynasty was my go to show when it was airing. It was aired on A&E network for 11 seasons. Duck Dynasty is an all time favorite show because of the family business, its family oriented, and the encouraging word you receive at the end of each show.
First and foremost, the show Duck Dynasty came about from the family business Duck Commander. Duck Commander was founded in 1973 after Phil Robertson came up with a patent for duck calls. My first time watching Duck Dynasty, the episode started with Willie, Jase, and their Uncle Si out duck hunting and they notice this huge beehive in the distance. So Willie, Jase, and Si decided to go collect the honey from the beehive and got stung by thousands of bee. They decided go talk to the patriarch of the family Phil Robertson about the beehive. Phil takes care of the beehive with the help of his grandson Cole. While out at the beehive Phil gives Cole advice about being patient when the time comes whatever he has been waiting for will eventually come to him. Every episode the family is doing something together hunting, fishing, building, and friendly family competitions. Supporting family is a big part of the show. One episode in particular, Jase’s daughter was going to surgery for a cleft palate. The family stopped everything they were doing and supported Jase and his daughter through the entire ordeal. Being together as a family is very important to the Robertson Family. That’s one of the reason Duck Dynasty is my favorite show because I’m all about family and having fun
The Cambodian culture is very collectivistic and a lot of those values are still upheld by the younger generations of Cambodian Americans. In Cambodian culture, family comes first. Terry Nhim, her in-laws Mon Neang and Roeun Muth and her brother in-law Vanna Neang all greatly emphasized the importance of family and looking out for one another. “Our family is large, not just my parents and siblings but rather my extended family as well. We try to be close to one another, and of course, there are some families we’re not as close to as others.
Family seemed to be important with this family. They often spent time with her family during the holiday season. They have family over when the kids are having birthdays. They spend time together as a family going camping.
The Great Gatsby is considered one of the best pieces of American Literature by many critics and authors. This is not because it was an interesting novel, it’s because it represented the time period well. It showed how there were many scandalous and immoral acts revolving around the major characters like Gatsby, Daisy, and Tom. These characters were shown having affairs, breaking the law multiple times, and being immoral. Colors in The Great Gatsby were extremely important because they show symbolism behind objects and characters. The color white represents impurity. Green symbolizes desirable but unattainable objects or people. Yellow is the color of death and corruption. These colors help show that impurity,wealth, and corruption can lead to the immorality of a person.
Napoleon Dynamite is one of the best movies portraying loneliness and nerds. It is the story of Napoleon in high school and his lonely adventures. All the main characters feel separated, misunderstood, and have nobody to relate to. Napoleon has no friends and lives in his own fantasy land. He is avoided by everybody. His brother seems to be mislead, wanting to be a cage fighter but staying home all the time hopelessly trying to find love and attention on the internet. Duck Dynasty follows the true hegemonic narrative of the perfect nuclear family and demonstrates the staging of the modern hillbilly meets success. No Hollywood veneer of perfection for everybody to aspire to be. The status quo is not keeping up with the Jones ;but in being more humble and down to earth then the neighbors next door. Stone Cold tells the saddening yet enlivening story of a 16 year male. He has experienced some gruesome experiences. This sixteen year old, born into a reasonably rough environment, goes by the name of Link. Link portrays many characteristics throughout Robert Swindells well written novel. These all I could relate to.
In America, it is becoming more difficult to achieve the American Dream. The American Dream is based on the idea that people can move higher up on the social scale, as long as they work hard work to accomplish their goal. The American Dream is also based on the belief that the social class you’re born into, is not the social class you have to stay in. In other words, everyone can move up in their lifetime if they work hard. However this is not true today, and people are not moving positively up the social class ladder. It has become a chain reaction of people with a college education vs. people without a college education. People with a college degree, or who have parents that have received a college degree, are significantly more likely to be in the upper class in America today, giving them an unfair advantage.
Homelessness poses a serious threat in all countries as people are exposed in an unsafe environment and try to live on change. “Do you have any spare change?” No I don’t have spare change, get a job you animal. We see people all over the streets holding signs and bringing their children to ask for change but during that whole time they could be doing something productive, like getting a job. Homelessness is a problem everywhere and its worse in other countries but here in America we have it rough. We have the means to fix homelessness with giving jobs to them in the fields of science and energy.
Parenting may be said as an experiment, because every parent has different views and ways of raising their own children. Parents raise their child in such ways in which they believe is beneficial and healthy for the child. A story that came across media news about a baby, Storm, being raised as “genderless” fueled a controversy in defiance of gender stereotyping. The Witterick family in Canada believed that by acknowledging this practice it would, “tribute to freedom and choice in place of limitation, a standup to what the world could become in Storm’s lifetime” (Davis and James). However, in terms of raising a genderless child, this can cause the child to be unprepared to face the conventional norms or society. This practice may be causing the child a disservice.
To obtain and understanding of the current state of American Architecture and its development, we must first briefly establish the origin of architecture in America. Much of the 17th-century English colonial architecture resembled late medieval forms that had survived throughout much of rural England. The first American architecture houses were built in a wide range of sizes, gables, and overhangs. They also had a lack of symmetry that was reflected in the late medieval style throughout Europe. However, unlike rural England’s architecture, in Virginia and Maryland; brick construction and a symmetrical facade were preferred for one story homes. Upon the idea of domestic homes, cities began to be founded in the 17th century. Cities such as Boston, were chaotic in plan and with the turn of the 18th century, colonies began to take on a more permanent role, often establishing individual character. Newly founded cities, such as: Williamsburg, Virginia; Annapolis, Maryland, and especially Philadelphia began to be laid out in a logical organization of regular grids. This eluded planners in London during the same period and thus the diverse seed of American architecture was planned. Continuing the development of unique American architecture, American in the early 1890s began to value their own heritage and architectural language featuring larger neighborhood tracts. In the 19th century, the Colonial Revival style took a more eclectic style, and columns were often seen.

But first, lets look at what a satire is and how the victorious poet annihilates the foe of a satire. According to the ancient Macquarie Dictionary, a satire is a 'term applied to any work of literature or art whose objective is to ridicule.'

In Searching for “Voices”: Feminism, Anthropology, and the Global Debates over Female Genital Operations, Walley discusses the social issues concerning female genital operations as perceived by “westerners”, as well as discusses her ethnographic account of female circumcision. Her main purpose of doing this was to lay the groundwork for “a more productive feminist and anthropological debate” capable of going beyond the binary terms in which female circumcisions are usually discussed. Since female circumcisions are known by a variety of names, such as female genital mutilation and female genital torture, and with her understanding of the negative connotation often associated with those varieties of names, Walley makes the decision to adopt the term female genital operations instead. In 1988, Walley went in the village of KiKhome, in western Kenya as an English teacher and immersed herself in the lives of the people living around the village to better understand the practice of female genital operations as an outsider. One day, some of her students invited her to assist at a female genital operation ceremony. She found out that the participants see circumcision as a rite of passage into adulthood. However, she truly wanted to know the participants’ personal views on the topic rather than the imposed views of their parents and their culture. The four women she interviewed told her that “their custom was good,” and it was something that a person needs to accept with her whole being not to feel the pain. Nevertheless, some of the women told her that they would not want their daughters to undergo circumcision, and that they themselves regretted having done the procedure.
