Dual Language Immersion Essay

The central theme I will focus on is dual language immersion also known as two-way immersion. I decided to do research on this topic as a result that the class I do my service learning is dual language immersion. Since I been in this class I have gotten motivated and inspired to to get certificated as a bilingual teacher. I speak both languages Spanish and English however I still need additional education to be proficient in both languages. To find some research I got my resources from the library database, library single search box, and a book professor Ondine Gage provided me with. This topic is really interesting and has many great points I was not aware of before.

The objective of the article is to report the opinions of parents that had their children in dual immersion for two years. The research was done of a school district in Southern California of the grades K-8. They research the parents by observing the parent’s meetings, doing teacher/parent activities, and monthly parent meetings. The parents participated in two groups which consisted of parents whose first language is Spanish and parents whose first language is English. Both of the groups were satisfied with the program because they believed their children had positive result. English speaking parents believe their children are becoming culturally aware, gain benefits for the future, their children grow on both language, and the parents were more involved. The Spanish speaking parents believe that it is important for their children to maintain their first language, they have an advantage in a future, and they are breaking down cultural barriers.
