There was hard times in the 1960s when drug use was a huge dilemma to the United States of America. Though at the same time of this dilemma, the Vietnam war was also a big problem which boosted the use of such drugs. Marijuana, Heroin, and LSD was a problem in the 1960s due to the suffering of the Vietnam war, the little information on drugs, and the experimentation of such drugs. Marijuana is a herbal drug that is either inhaled or ingested, usually causing whats called a ‘high’ where it enhances the person’s mental and physical facilities. This drug has been known to been used even in prehistory, but the biggest known time for it is the 1960s when many people used it across America. Once its in the bloodstream it changes into morphine, and causes a kind of ‘rush’ to the user. The intensity of the drug is caused by the drug entering the brain. During such rush, the user’s skin is a flushed color, their mouth becomes dry, and would have a kind of heavy feeling. Afterwards, the drug causes nausea and vomiting, severe itching, and the user is extremely tired. Many people in the 1960s used such drug to feel the ‘rush’ and would use more than necessary, sometimes to numb certain pains they have. Heroin is also known to have fatal effects; due to it slowing down breathing and clouding the brain. The use can sometimes lead to a coma, and even permanent brain damage. When they went to war they faced a lot of anxiety, pressure, and responsibility; which would be a lot on any regular person to handle. The soldiers who came back had no time to readjust with being home and safe, and the memories of the war had caused them great pain so many turned to drugs. Marijuana was the main drug of choice to the soldiers, and when it was made illegal many soldiers turned to Heroin to get their ‘high’. Also a lot of soldiers turned to alcohol, being alcoholics and causing huge problems to their families and friends.
