Such as their parents. Their parents just don't seem to care about their own child's education, so their parents are not in the picture, and the teens are raising themselves. Meaning they don't communicate with their children. For example “sparkle” she is one of the characters in the documentary. Sparkle lives anywhere she can find to have a place to sleep. These students just don't seem to care about their grades.
How would you describe the relationships between the school administrators/teachers and the students? I personally would say that these students really do have staff at the school who really care about them. For example these students are on track to drop out of school, but the school staff are taking time to pull these students aside and help them come up with a plan to get them on track to graduate on time.the staff gives them chance after chance, to stay at the school and graduate. No matter how much they screw up the staff helps them get back on track instead of kicking them out of the
Richard Rodriguez’s The Achievement of Desire puts a very unusual point of view on how to look at the education system and how it affects the everyday person. Rodriguez talks immensely about the term he uses called “The Scholarship Boy.” He claims that the scholarship boy is technically defined as a student who is extremely talented but is changed by the school environment. This means that they (the students) can be extremely cultured at home but as soon as they start learning about other cultures through the education process, they change remarkably. Doing this can cause a lot of things to go right or wrong in the ones culture back home. It can cause problems between the kids and parents, siblings and siblings or even the parents at each
Education can be defined as set of activities that are aimed at developing moral values, skills, knowledge and understanding that is required in all life aspects (Kolb, 2014).
The video also shows how much inclusive education has changed throughout the years, and how things like collaboration have improved. At the end of Sean’s Story I still have the question of even though Sean’s friend was in a school and they were teaching the students to be functional in the real world, those students were not being exposed to normal students. This made we wonder if this would impact them in the long world because the will never have that chance to be in a controlled environment to make mistakes about being around others and have that learning
Building relationships as a campus administrator is critical to the success of a campus. Building positive working relationships with teachers, and students is critical to sustaining a community of learners. Students have to know administrator also face failure, deal with fear and are willing to share themselves with others. Campus administrators must feature many relationship strategies for teachers and students through the year to increase the relationship capacity because humans in general ten to do more for people they feel care about them as a
Tracking is where students are identified as gifted or placed in remedial classes. By doing this, students learn about their overall success and achievements in comparison to the other groups. In the documentary, the principal, Rob Gasparello, addresses why their school is not the greatest. He states that their school has a “terrible reputation” and that the numbers do not lie. Looking at the data would assume that the overall success rate is not as high as other schools. By knowing this, it can be detrimental to the students’ education. This can be detrimental because students who attend this high school may start believing that they will never be successful so why bother trying. Other students who do not attend this high school may not have respect for these schools and assume they are better because they believe that they go to a better school. This is an example of inequality in education and studies have shown that while education benefits everyone, it does not benefit everyone equally. An inequality in education mirrors and inequality in
In modern times, it comes as no surprise that there are a plethora of issues and negative occurrences throughout the traditional educational system. Schooling is not a choice, but a mandatory duty that each and every child must fulfill almost daily. Depending on grade level and work load, the average student spends nearly 8 hours per day either learning in school or completing assignments from that day (U.S. Bureau). This indicates that a majority of a secondary education student’s time is consumed by school and school related work. Because this is an obligatory role, it is imperative that these students are not being forced to do such work, but instead are interested and engaged so that they may enjoy this work. Although there is a multitude of reasons that a student may do poorly in school, a substantial cause is the flaws with the grade level system that most schools implicate. The elimination of grade level systems is not entirely unheard of or practiced, but it has not been extricated enough to show the advantages of alternative schooling systems.
Education means a variety of things to any individual because it is the route to fulfilling dreams that one would not have otherwise been able to believe was possible. Just as food provides nourishment to the stomach, happiness satisfaction to the soul, education is the dietary supplement to the brain. Education endows one with the strength and motivation to have a dream, as a consequence one is able to lead a life filled with happiness. One is able to have contentment because with the attainment of an educated mind they are cognizant that they can achieve all of what they have ever imagined. As children we are taught to dream what we want to become and as an adolescent, we are able to live to become just as what we have imagined. The very essence of what we seek to become is educated in a sense because we can only become a step closer to making our reality come into existence without beginning with education.
Education is very important in our life. It measures our life chances and the window of opportunity to success in the society. Our education institution not only teaches us how to write, read and communicate thoroughly, but also social skills that enable us to become a productive citizen of society. The U.S. have taken enormous pride of its ability to provide top-notch education and freedom of its access. "It's the promise of American public education: no matter who you are or where you come from, you will be tugged gently along the path of learning, toward graduation and an open but hopeful future"(Dropout nation). However, the U.S. education is failing- one out of three students in public high school would not graduate, and for African American students, the rates is one out of two. Dropping out of school is no longer an occasion for bad students, but a social phenomenon, a silent epidemic that slowly eaten the strongest nation in the world. The causes of this epidemic is not one, but multifaceted: government, media and family are all part of its causes and solutions. In order to tackle this problem, we must identity our fault and short coming in the past.
Being educated is to be adaptable, willing to entertain new ideas, and pursue knowledge. Throughout the semester, my idea of an educated person has changed quite a lot, starting with the necessity of higher education, ending with a more substantial, personal motivation. I thought that the only way to be truly educated was to attend college, and get a degree, obtaining proof that you were a refined, cultured, person. However, I’ve come to believe that as long as you’ve come to understand that education is constantly evolving, that your level of knowledge about things can constantly be refined, then I believe that you are an educated person. Educated people know that there is always more to learn, and go find ways to introduce themselves to the new information, through either fantastic circumstances or by the sheer force of will.

There is no one single definition for what education really is. Experts and scholars from the beginning have viewed and commented about education in different ways. The definition mostly agreed upon was that education is an acquisition or passing of skills, behavior or knowledge from an institution to another. This institution can either be a person, a school, a family or even the society. If we go in the ancient meaning and the ideology of education, it means to lead out of ignorance. In other words, education or knowledge in this sense was light and education brought the person out of the dark. The purpose and ideology of education is therefore to bring out the potential of a person and pass on knowledge
