Dress code to many students is just a regular thing they have to follow or something they dread to wear depending on how strict the dress code is, however, they do not know the many benefits that come with following dress code. Dress code establishes organization and sets the students up of being professional. This allows students to be more productive and they will start treating school as if it is a job. Once students start being professional this allows them to become more prepared which will make getting a job easier for them in the future. Schools that have specific suppliers for dress code can be a bad thing because the shirts could be priced expensively and other clothing from other stores would result in the student being out of dress code. Another reason to why dress code is not popular among schools are because it is “simply a Band-Aid on the issue of school violence,” not a solution (Wilde, 2016). People would think that since schools are wearing the same thing that would cause students to become more orderly and lead to a stop in school violence, however, it just seems to bring more problems to the school. Problems such as bullying and gang violence still remain even though dress code is supposed to eliminate them. Dress code is seen to be very sexist towards women due to them having many different types of clothing styles. Schools target women more because they think boys would get distracted from the clothes they wear. The opposing viewpoint of dress code will receive improved focus, improved safety, and improved behavior. A research shows that “68 percent of the parents,” see that there is an improvement in how the way their kid performs in school (Steffen, Wilder, & Key, 2015). The opposing viewpoint will benefit with better grades and a better future because that will make them more financially stable. Also, kids will have a simple “clothing selection,” to choose from making it easier to get dressed and ready in the morning (Schlauch, 2014). This saves time for both the parent and the kid resulting in the parent getting to work faster and the kid getting to school faster. Many students skip school because of bullies that are out to pick on them because of what they wear. Dress code provides a “safety net,” because everybody wears the same things and causes the bullies to go away because there is nothing to pick on (Spencer, 2013). This allows kids to not worry about getting picked on and allows kids to focus on learning and getting smarter.
