3.1 – Aims

In this part of my essay the results of the questionnaire are presented. In the previous chapters we got to know many vampire-types with many features. Some of them were bloody heartless murderers, while others became the dream of adolescents. I became really curious about people’s opinion so the aim of this part is to get a comprehensive picture about which vampire-type do respondents prefer, which characteristics are the best known and to what extent is this opinion and knowledge in connection with age and gender. I made the questionnaire with the help of www.surveymonkey.com and I linked it into the most popular community webpage so everybody could fill it, who was interested in the topic.

It is almost impossible to list all the books and films someone has seen or read in his/her entire life – although some of them were so zealous that they listed more than forty works – but I was curious which of them come immediately to their mind. Modern vampire books and novels of 21st and very late 20th century definitely won this “competition”. I noticed that that many youngsters – mostly girls – didn’t list Dracula works – neither the films, nor the books. In my view, this result is disappointing because at least the name Dracula must be a part of basic knowledge, because it is often regarded as the “original vampire novel” and both the films and the novels are big classics that everyone should see at least once in a lifetime. I think people forgot to list Dracula due to influence of the media, because nowadays we can see Edward and his followers in television, newspapers, films and …show more content…

There were no two people out of the 90 respondents, who had exactly the same answers. It can be seen that people have very different opinion about how do vampires look like and what are their features, but answers in connection with those characteristics, which existed both in the past few centuries and nowadays, was more common such as immortality or super strength. However, only a little amount of the respondents – most of them were males – chose the “older” features like wicked, old, scary, burn in the sunlight or they fear of garlic.
