As stated by Dr. Brown, Catholic Southern Europe was characterized by the counter reformation and absolutist monarchies. Different arts were created in the church service and Northern European burgers. The work that describes the Baroque period is stylistically complex, even contradictory.According to Dr. Brown's desire to evoke emotional states by appealing to the senses, often in dramatic way led to "grandeur, sensuous richness, drama, vitality, movement, tension, emotional exuberance, and a tendency to blur the distinctions between the various arts". Tendency can be seen, for Louis XIV at Versailles . (2) Caravagio was a contemporary artist in boroque period. According to Dr. Brown, he introduces borogue spirit in his paintings. He became famous with his painting Oath of the Horatii and he got commission for it from king Louis xvi. He portrays heroes of revolution like napoleon Bonaparte. He painted Napoleon crossing the alps as successor. He has put certain devices and effects in his work to help the viewers come to a certain opinion and have a certain type of an impression of Napoleon. An example of contradictory art was the recent exhibition in the MoMa museum that I saw in a New York magazine. The exhibition by Frank Lloyd Wright, which was named Density vs Dispersal and was a mixture of art and architecture.
