Domestic Family Violence is considering a critical social problem in Australia, and it has been increasing drastically through last decades. Statistical data has showed that women and children are being abused mainly in accordance with Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2012. Also, they had found that physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and social are the predominant type of abuses. In many cases, perpetrators have been identified as a family members arise from imposing power, authority or control over the victims. Domestic Violence does not discriminate, and affects women and children from different ethnic background, culture, age and socio-economic status. Thereby, statistical data has showed that one of six women had experienced physical or sexual violence from a current or former partner, and one in four Australian women had experience emotional abuse (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2012). Throughout Australia, nearly one woman has been murdered every week by their partner (Bryant & Cussen, 2015). With sexual assault and domestic violence still being significantly under reported, these statistics only provide a limited snapshot of the true number of women and children that have experienced violence and abuse (Marcus & Braaf, 2007). This information demonstrate that women and children have experienced significantly more abuse and violence compared with 1 in 19 Australian men that had experienced physical or sexual violence (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2012). Nevertheless, these statistics do illustrate that majority of victims of family /domestic violence and sexual assault are women and their children and that men are predominately the perpetrators of such acts. Two main factors that likely contribute to increase Domestic Family Violence are alcohol and other drugs. (Stathopoulos, M., & Jenkinson, R. 2016). The Centre of Legal Services in Queensland only being attending 50 per cent of the victims that suffer violence, with the new reduction they will not be able to offer the service. Therefore, women’s lives are in risk. (Mckenzie, 2017). The sector was preparing to take the reduction of the budget from July 1, 2017. However, the Government decided to restore the cut funding for legal centres after the reaction of the opposition, victims and the legal services.
