This past Saturday, Nashville, Tennessee hosted their first-ever Stanley Cup game. This game brought tens of thousands of spectators to cheer on their team; both inside and outside of the venue. This influx of fans raised major concerns regarding the safety and security of predator fans. As a response, Nashville increased its security measures for Game 4. Was this increase solely based on the additional crowds in attendance or do you feel that the increase in security was in direct response to recent terrorist events/attacks throughout the world? However, due to features of the criminal trial process, established by the adversarial system of trial, cases can often involve copious amounts of time and money, particularly evident in the case of R vs Rogerson and McNamara where factors such as time and money are demonstrated to be in excess. In addition, characteristics of the adversarial system such as plea bargaining has the power to hinder convictions due to the accused having the authority to hire experienced and expensive lawyers to argue their case, hence maintaining their innocence.

In Tim Seibles' poem, The Case, he reviews the problematic situations of how white people are naturally born with an unfair privilege. Throughout the poem, he goes into detail about how colored people become uncomfortable when they realize that their skin color is different. Not only does it affect them in an everyday aspect, but also in emotional ways as well. He starts off with stating how white people are beautiful and continues on with how people enjoy their presence. Then he transitions into how people of color actually feel when they encounter a white person. After, he ends with the accusation of the white people in today's world that are still racist and hateful towards people of color.

Arundel wants to come up with a decision to either purchase all the sequel rights for a studio's entire production during a specified period of time or purchase a specified number of major films. Arundel's profitability is dependent upon the price it pays for a portfolio of sequel rights. Our analysis of Arundel's proposal includes a net present value calculation of each movie production company. In order to decide whether Arundel can make money buying movie sequel rights depends on whether the net present value of the production company's movies is higher than the estimated 2M per film required to purchase the rights.
Defendants who want to die, or “volunteers”, as they are frequently named, pose unique difficulties for the criminal justice system. The first person put to death in the post Furman era, Gary Gilmore, was a volunteer. At Gilmore’s trial, adversary proceeding were conducted in both the guilt and punishment stages. At the appellate level, however, Gilmore insisted that he did not want to appeal to the Utah Supreme Court and desired to be put to death instantly. After the events of 09/11/2001 the Department of Homeland security was founded and within the department fell a new agency known as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The TSA was instructed to secure all modes of transportation and they committee was instructed that they wanted to see result soon. Additionally the Aviation and Transportation Security Act required the screening of passengers, cargo and luggage for explosives as the primary priority. Even though the TSA is charged with the transportation security the primary focus has been Airport security. Long lines, arriving two hours early to your flight are all after effects of improved security. Are these security measures worth the waits and inconvenient or should things go back to the way they were prior to 9/11. The true question is what is worth your piece of mind when your family and friends are flying to see you, domestically and international?
March 30, 1981 was a peaceful day. President Ronald Reagan was walking outside enjoying the fresh air when suddenly shots were fired. Six shots were fired in total, but only one shot hit Reagan due to a bullet that ricocheted. Luckily, Reagan was hit in the abdomen; therefore, he survived. The “mastermind” behind the attempted assassination was a man named John Hinckley. Hinckley believed by going through with this assassination it would be a romantic scenario for himself to confess his undying love for the actress Jodie Foster. Before long it was time for the Hinckley trial and after hearing his side of the story, the jury came to the conclusion that he was crazy. Fifteen years ago on September 11th the US came to a screeching halt when nineteen men armed with utility knives hijacked four airplanes and crashed them into the world trade centers in New York City, which nearly killed three thousand citizens. This is why airport security needed to be increased.
On September 11, 2001 a series of attacks were planned on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Washington, D.C. On this day, I remember, after my fifth grade teacher received the news of the attacks, she turned on the television. At this age I could not come to grips of why this was happening. I was saddened to watch the buildings burn down knowing that on the inside lives of people were being lost. Now, almost a decade later, the attacks on 9/11 has left a long-term effect on the United States. The aftermath of 9/11 caused America to be vulnerable to terrorism. It affected every race across the U.S. causing some to be racially profiled because of the race that was “assumed” to be behind the attacks. In order to strengthen the U.S. from future attacks, the Homeland Security Act was passed in 2002. This Act was introduced after the 9/11 attacks and mailing of anthrax. It was signed into law by then President George W. Bush in November 2002. It created both the United States Department of Homeland Security and the cabinet-level position of Secretary of Homeland Security. The Act's first responsibility was to prevent terrorist attacks in the United States. Actions were needed after 9/11 occurred, from issuing a Commission Report to creating the Department of Homeland Security that specialized in terrorist attacks.
With the 'unknown certainty' of terrorist actions and fan behavior, it is impossible to ensure a risk-free environment at America's sporting venues. Incidents will happen and emergencies will arise. It is a matter of how one prepares, responds, and recovers to mitigate the consequences of emergencies at a sporting venue. Erik Peterson faced a number of challenging situations with Jeff Hardy, a high level employee with CelluComm, the parent company of GMCT. At first we see an awkward relationship with Jeff Hardy whom Peterson had been assigned to work under by Ric Jenkins, partly due to the lack of concrete relationship guidelines between the two (Sami, 2013). Hardy had very little operational experience, and Peterson felt that he was unable to receive constructive guidance from Hardy. As a subordinate to Hardy, Peterson should have instead attempted to resolve this problem early on as it was a critical relationship within the GMCT Company. Consulting Hardy by letting him know of his concerns would have been a more efficient and respectful manner in handling the situation. This relationship building would also have been integral in facing the Peterson-Hardy communication issues with respect to the local municipalities and fire department. Operant Learning Theory (Johns & Saks, 2014, p.54) suggests that as a result of this negative consequence Peterson should be able to improve his interpersonal skills specifically with superiors within the organization moving forward. As a subordinate to Hardy, Peterson should have instead attempted to resolve this problem early on as it was a critical relationship within the GMCT Company.
