In this essay I will be going over how developments in technology effected the form and content of documentary films, I will be exploring how advances in technology have improved the way we watch and understand documentary, also I will be going in-depth about how social media and the internet has brought new ways of creating documentary film, for us the public. going over how the advances in technology have brought a variety of documentary styles. and how each have progressively proven to show that documentary filmmaking is never over and there will always be something out there for us to invent or find.
Documentary was not so proudly looked upon in the early years of cinema back in 1890 to 1920's, as back then you didn't have the right essential to travel and film on the go. Without the advances in technology, documentary filmmakers will struggle to produce new and interesting films, this was until the portable cameras where invented and brought to our use, providing a whole era of talented young directors, we understand and see more of the world now than ever before due to the facts and imagery that is produced by documentary director. Since technology has grown since early cinema the content in which documentary has provided us, is in variety of modes such as expository documentaries, observational documentaries and reflexive documentaries, all these offer different areas of film. This is due to the fact documentary can push the boundaries on how far they can go and where they can go, due to the fact that digital technology is increasingly alternating, giving new opportunities to offer an exhilarate and more stunning pictures/films for the public/audience to see and be a part of.

The invention of handheld cameras and various other equipment was a step forward in every filmmakers eyes especially documenters, because documentary filmmaking was falling behind all other forms of filmmaking such as action, drama and thrillers. The creation of portable cameras have been able to help documenters explore new ways in which they can provide us with information if it's through the cinemas or through the internet, documentaries have provided us with unseen footage and information that we the viewer would not of known about. I personally believe that documentary filmmaking has grown successfully over the years, creating a wider range of audience's who look towards documentaries as a way of seeing life, they would normal see or take part in.
