The 21st-century workplace is one characterized by impressive advancement in technology, a great diversity of workers, the desired need for a work-family balance and a change in the classification of the working poor. With an increase in the effects of globalization and the need for businesses to gain economic security; the new workplace is one that is very skill-intensive. The availability of larger pools of workers creates the opportunity to maintain economic growth by tapping new human capital resources” (Hermann, 1999). Diversity within the workplace is essential in having a competitive advantage. Therefore, as we can capitalize on the diversity within the workplace, it is vital to manage this change so that all workers can benefit. This can be done by narrowing wage gaps between the different racial groups and the sexes. In managing the diversity, training sessions need to be in place for persons to gain the necessary skills to excel in the workplace. Employees specifically the minority should be empowered to try and obtain a higher level of education to meet the work demands. Moreover, in managing the diversity within the workplace, it would be effective for businesses to utilize the different racial groups and sexes’ talents specifically to reap the benefits of operating in a very diverse consumer based economy. In addition, when businesses invest in their diverse employees, it in result would lead them into obtaining a comparative advantage on the global market. Furthermore, with the diversification of the workforce may come discrimination, therefore for its maintenance within the workplace, antidiscrimination policies should be created and strong efforts would be given so that all employers will benefit within the
