Last year I lived in Scott Hall, since it was a freshman dorm there was always a strong sense of community. This year I live in Holshauser and though there are a lot of friendly people it lacks of a the sense of unity that I felt in Scott. I think that I could help Holshauser feel more like a community, while also allowing the residents to know more about their community. Want to help foster happier and healthier relationships between all the resident that live on campus. Open mindedness is one of the best qualities to have when working with a group. When people with different backgrounds come together it allows for a pleura of new ideas to form. It is important to take all of these ideas into consideration, even if the ideas seem foreign or new. Seeing so many different attitudes, cultures and ways of thinking come together, initially it caused a bit of an internal conflict for me. Views that differed with my own beliefs originally caused me discomfort. But as the year progressed I not only learned how to deal with many types of people but also how to understand and respects their ideas. I realized that the differences in people should not cause tension instead make the world better. Organizations that bring people help show that it does not matter where you are from , diversity in people leads to diversity in thought, and diversity in the way YOU think about the world. From being in OAS my scope of how i view the world and how I view people changed drastically. Now I am willing to listen to all ideas because it not only benefits the groups but it benefits me.
