Diversity In High School

Diversity among students is prevalent in today’s high schools. No two students are exactly alike; however, that does not mean that students do not share similar qualities. Students of the same class tend to follow similar behavior and trends as their peers. For example, generally, freshmen lack the level of physical and mental qualities that seniors possess. Freshmen are younger and are more susceptible to being taken by surprise in high school. They enter high school oblivious to the personality change that is yet to come. Seniors have had more time to mature and develop both physically and mentally, while freshmen begin to gradually adapt to the many changes high school brings. Seniors have had the chance to adjust and develop into young adults while freshmen are only beginning their journey. Work ethic, responsibility, and attitude are basic factors that, if taken seriously, can change the way a student progresses throughout high school. High school is a time for students of all ages to have fun and enjoy the relationships that are made, but more importantly it is a period of adjustment and change of the individual physically and mentally. Despite fluctuating maturity levels and attitudes, freshmen in high school tend to be irresponsible and show a lack of confidence in contrast to seniors because they are inexperienced and unaware of the amount of responsibility, work ethic, and attitude required of them. People today are aware of the common characteristics a senior has in contrast to those of a freshman. People should take notice that seniors are more structurally developed and better adapted to the real world than freshmen. Fortunately for freshmen, adjusting to the surrounding environment gets easier as time progresses. Though high school is new and intimidating, freshmen have so much to look forward to as well as seniors. Freshmen get a taste of the advantages high school brings along with it while seniors get to claim the title as “upperclassmen” and take charge of their senior year.
