The Chilling Connection of Disney’s Frozen and Fairytales A typical fairy tale consists of a princess, a prince, and an evil queen. A characteristic like what was previously mentioned is the basis for many Disney movies (A good example would be Snow White.). A recent cinematic work that has received critical acclamation, Frozen, follows the fairy tale model. Through out the plot twists and climatic scenes in the movie, there are various myths that reflect today’s culture and current issues that are relatively opposing thousand-year-old traditional views. The movie takes place in a fictional kingdom known as Arrendale, the home of royals Elsa and Anna. Growing up, Elsa and Anna were playmates. As they grow up, Elsa discovers her powers of manipulating snow and ice, which is the main form of entertainment for Anna and Elsa. After Elsa strikes Anna in the head with her powers out of fear, she begins to distance herself from her younger sister, Anna. Eventually, fear takes over Elsa causing her powers to become more dangerous. Among the separation of the two sisters, both of their parents (King and Queen of Arrendale) die overseas. Elsa becomes of age, she is becomes Queen of Arrendale. During the coronation festivities, her magical powers are revealed freezing the entire kingdom permanently, and Elsa runs away to the North Mountain. Anna decides to go and find Elsa so Elsa can bring Arrendale back to normal. During Anna’s journey, she meets Kristoff, a man who sells ice for a living and speaks for his reindeer-friend (Sven) and Olaf, a witty snowman created by Elsa. Anna finds her sister, and tells her of the tragedy she caused in Arrendale. Elsa stubbornly stays in her icy castle and accidentally strikes Anna in the heart. Anna heart continues to freeze, and she will eventually become frozen unless an act of true love is performed. At the end of the film, Elsa saves Anna’s life due to her change of heart, and Arrendale is a happy kingdom …show more content…

Another lesson that can be taken from this movie is love is can fix everything. In the film, Anna meets Kristoff’s family – a bunch of magical trolls that know the trick to cure Anna’s heart. The trolls sing to Anna about Kristoff’s imperfections that can all be fixed by true love. Olaf spurts additional words of wisdom here and there throughout the movie. Among them is the popular ironic quote, “Some people are worth melting for,” in reference to him helping Anna in front of the fireplace.
