Discrimination against females and males is a persistent and serious problem, especially in the Caribbean. Throughout history it is believed that the different roles, purpose, attribute and status accorded to females and males in society are characterized by gender. In the Caribbean there has been an uneven distribution of authority, wealth and privileges among females and males. Discrimination against males with discrimination against females are compared on the bases of sports, family and home environment, residual income and sexual orientation.

In the Caribbean men have been considered to insensitive and unable to effectively raise children. Whereas women are considered to be the care takers of the children and family. For example in custody battles cases women win the custody of children base on the pre-conception that women are more qualified than men in the child rearing and family life . It much more difficult for a man to get custody of his children than a woman. Adopting a child is more difficult for a male than a female Also the structure of the laws of the land for child / alimony support system is set up in favor of women. In the case of pregnancy men do not get any options on whether or not she keeps there child, also he does not get the same amount of maternity leave a woman is entitled to. Women are not born with the same physical capabilities as men and therefore they are discriminated upon as not being capable of achieving the same tasks as males in the same or similar positions in the work environment. Although women have contributed to the economic growth of their country and work as doctors, teachers and electrician there is still a great deal of discrimination. Women have low status because they are exploited by powerful men for work they do. Selma state ”Women are not treated fairly with the respect they deserve from institutions.” Women face discrimination in the work place all over the world. Even when applying for a job, women have to undertake the legacy of an old chauvinist society.
