Presidential is a complicated process. It is long and expensive. People from different parties would try to run for President. They have to make campaigns and persuade people to vote for them by starting out their goals and actions. Usually, people from the same party are more likely to have the same goals and to vote for their representatives. Those goals are listed on the party’s platform, which everyone can have an access to. However, the members of a political party have never read their party’s platform. Campaign professionals and political consultants state that the platform does not help the candidate, but hurt them. However, some of the most controversial matters are about college tuition, gay marriage, and abortion. The first topic is college tuition. In the Democratic Platform, the party believe in everyone should have an access to college or any higher education if they want to, and education is essential. Their aim is to bring down the college tuition and student debts to the lowest rate possible. One of their solution stated in the platform is, “we will significantly cut interest rates for future undergraduates because we believe that making college more affordable is more important than the federal government making billions of dollars in profit off those loans.” The Republican Platform, however, believes in “The federal government should not be in the business of originating student loans.” Even though they also realize the increase in the cost of college, they have a different solution for the problem. “In order to bring down college costs and give students access to a multitude of financing options, private sector participation in student financing should be restored. Any regulation that increases college costs must be challenged to balance its worth against its negative economic impact on students and their families.” Furthermore, they also want to improve access to education by providing different modes of study, for example, online university. The second controversy topic is gay marriage. It is clear that the Democrats support gay marriage because they openly state that in the platform. With a completely opposite belief, the Republican do no mention anything about gay marriage. Instead, they emphasize the idea of traditional marriage. They state that “Traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and instilling cultural values.” Last but not least, one of the main
