Medical professionals use various practices to help provide relief for their clients. Physiotherapy and Acupuncture are quite commonly believed to be both appropriate forms of effective medical practices. Physiotherapy is considered a western scientific medicine that uses different methods to relieve pain (Physio Tauranga, n.d.). Whereas, traditional acupuncture uses needles to pin point the certain areas of the body. While these medicines use different techniques, have different side effects, and have different financial costs both of these recommended medicines provide similar results, however physiotherapy is more efficient.

Physiotherapists use their knowledge of the human body and provide their patients with hands-on clinical skills to diagnose and evaluate them (Physiotherapy New Zealand, n.d.). They help their patients by reducing the risk of more injury, reducing medication, managing the pain and avoiding possible surgery (Physiotherapy New Zealand, n.d.). Physiotherapists can help with a variety of conditions (Sokanu, n.d.). Physiotherapists can use different types of techniques such as manual therapies, exercise programmes and electrotherapy techniques depending on the patient (Health Times, 2017). However, the physiotherapist will be there through the patients healing process, offering advice and support (Solvang & Fougner, 2016). Acupuncture involves using fine needles to trigger certain points of the body to help relieve pain, improve a person’s well-being or to help assist with certain health conditions (Live Science, 2017 ). By placing the needles into the pressure points, the blood flow will regulate to trouble spots through pathways in the body, which results in the relaxation of muscles with less swelling, tension and pain (Calbay, 2014). There are many beneficial factors of acupuncture. When acupuncture is performed safely, it may be effective in some forms of injuries. It is still yet to be discovered what acupuncture can and cannot treat (JAMA, 1998). Acupuncture can also be used in combination with other medicines such as other herbal medicines, moxibustion, or tui na (Acupuncture NZ, n.d.). During the insertion of needles into the skin, it is common to experience little pain (Health Wellness, n.d.). However, majority of the time acupuncture is said to be painless (Author, 2015), but if patients feel uncomfortable there are other alternatives (Singer, 2017). Disadvantages of acupuncture includes soreness, organ injury, infections and/or bleeding disorders to name a few (Mayo Clinic, 2015).
