Developing a group’s identity can be difficult as an identity is a multi-faceted project due to the clashing of multiple egos and personalities. The crucial points of development are: which team building perspective to work from, how to prevent role conflict and encourage role acceptance, and encourage personal and interpersonal cohesion which leads to group cohesion.
As the coach of a sports team or a leader of a cardiac rehabilitation group the time spent as a group has a known end from the start. In order to better develop a group’s identity one needs to work using the cyclical or life cycle perspective. I choose to use cyclical/life cycle perspective because it is defined as being best suited for a group or groups which are set in a finite
