“Desiree’s Baby” is a short story that was written by Kate Chopin. It is about a woman that was found by the side of the road as a baby by a wealthy French family.The family thought of it as a gift from God because they were not able to have children of their own. One day when Desiree grew up, her neighbor Armand Aubigny sees her outside by a gate and immediately falls in love with her, despite the protests from her wealthy family. Desiree and Armand are passionate about their love and immediately get married and have a child. As the child grows they see that he has colored skin and soon Armand jumped to conclusions accusing Desiree of being the one that had black genes. In “Desiree’s Baby” the author Kate Chopin describes one of the main characters Desiree as beautiful and affectionate. Desiree was so beautiful that when Armand Aubigny passed riding by a big passion awoke him making him immediately fall in love with her. “It was no wonder , when she stood one day against the stone pillar in whose shadow she had lain asleep, eighteen years before, that Armand Aubigny riding by and seeing her there, had fallen in love with her… The passion that awoke in him that day, when he saw her at the gate, swept along like an avalanche, or like a prairie fire, or like anything that drives headlong over all obstacles”.
