“Your almost there!” “Dont give up!” “I cant reach! My foot is slipping!” In a whole other country, in a state i've never been in, a new city, on top of the highest wooden tower i've ever seen. The United States of America. Kentucky. Campbellsville. The Tango Tower. My first day at Tim Hortons camp Kentahten, out of every place 12 year old me went to this, was the hottest place and the hottest day i've ever experienced. Waking up at six in the morning. Singing the Canadian national anthem and trying to learn the American national anthem. Walking up and down steep hills never knowing what was for breakfast for the next 9 days. My next hand hold was so far up. I couldn't reach it. I look up. “Come on, you can do it”. I extend my left foot, putting all the pressure on the medium blue rock screwed into the wood. Grasping the dull yellow rock with my fingers i manage to pull myself up. One more reach, sticking my fingers between the two pieces of wood on top of the tower. I made it. Looking down i see ropes cross-hatched in the shape of a square surrounding it was the wooden floor. Some campers were sitting on the ropes, but i would have fallen through because the holes were to big. A rope was attached to my harness. The next thing ik is that i'm standing on a small box connected to the outside of the tower only big enough for my feet. As i slowly and carefully go to sit down on that tiny square platform i feel the tower start to shake. Is it really the tower? Or is it me shaking? I finally sit down and they tell me to look back so they can take a ...picture?! Who has time to take a picture while my legs are dangling of the edge of a 20ft tall wooden shaky tower?!
