I pulled up to my house late at night. My truck humming as it rolled over the gravel scattered about the driveway. After coasting to a stop, I reached for the knob that controlled the lights. I paused for a moment, and looked out into the beams of light that sliced through the darkness. A thought, a fleeting idea, was developing in my mind. I had just spent half my day shooting the breeze with friends and couldn’t wrap my mind around the fact that there is so much more out there, in the real world. “Click” I switched the lights off and then stepped outside into the darkness of night. Instinctively, as I do every night, I looked up at the vastness of the midnight sky. Tonight was extraordinary, it seemed as though all of the stars had been drawn out for a special occasion. I started to realize the eerie quietness of the night around me. Even the crickets were silent. I quickly slung my gym bag around my body and then walked inside. I slid off my shoes and let down my bag, another day in the books. After checking the fridge I decided it was time to get some much needed sleep. While I was brushing my teeth I couldn’t help but think about how large the universe is in comparison to the earth. There is so much out there that we will never reach. I began to think about how small my individual world is, compared to the earth. There is so much to be done, so much we don’t even know about and billions of different people on the same place that we think is ours. Because of our new social standards and advances we have become so near sighted to our own conditions. Infatuated with the way we want people to see our lives. We believe that we are the center of the universe. We never stop, and actually to look up at what is around
