Through the windows of this charming little coffee shop the light shines in bright through the huge windows that surround the coffee shop on the two sides. As the light shines in it reflects off the tea pots and coffee mugs that are on the shelf in all different colors, and with the reflection it creates swirls of colors on the tables and the floor, which makes the coffee shop seem bigger than it really is. The atmosphere makes the coffee shop very inviting to stay all day and do work, sit with friends and catch up, or just sit in silence taking in the surroundings around you and all the things that you miss in your fast paced life. As I sit here waiting for David Johnson, I realize how laid back everyone is in here, people are at peace with one’s self and they are just sitting here with the breeze going through the shop as people enter and exit through the door, but the back door is open so with that breeze it fills the whole room with nice spring air as well as the wonderful smell of fresh ground coffee beans fills the room.
The first time I saw David Johnson preform in a coffee shop I was with my brother at the coffee shop when he came to visit me, changed the way I look at open mic night. I did not want to be there I wanted to be anywhere else but there. I never see my brother since he lives in another state, I never go to Philadelphia because New York is my thing, but my brother wanted to go so I said why not, while he was up in Glenside visiting me. There were so many people preforming and they were all just blurring together in the background of my mind. ...he opens his mouth there is an intelligent man with amazing opinions and ideas that impress everyone when he talks. He had a rough life in his late teen and early adulthood and he is not letting him hold him back today, he credits his struggles to the person he is today a throwback to the day hippie who lives for the music and concerts and a common feel of peace, happiness, and community. Dave is never short on his opinion on government either through his songs or poems he questions things that he feels is wrong and makes them publically known for all to hear. He credits who is today on the hippie movements of the 1960’s and when you see him you can tell he was born in the wrong generation. He is an amazing countercultural change in our society you always need those over the top and out there people to make a change and Dave is that person in our society to do it.
