Description: Although choosing one piece of art when there are so many can be a bit problematic as well as downright frustrating when you are stuck between the top three choices, but there is usually one that stands out the most. For me, that is The Old Guitarist by, Pablo Picasso. Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Spain. Picasso painter, sculptor, and stage designer. He was considered one of the greatest influential artists of the 20th century. Picasso devoted himself in many artistic ways, many which were considered superstitious as people believed it would keep him alive, which contributed to modern art in the 20th century. The Old Guitarist highlight the people in the low class, as the man can be related to the people on the street begging for anything pennies and food in modern times. He has contributed an estimated 13,500 masterpieces paintings throughout his 75 years' work span and most of the time each painting highly symbolizes the outpour of his emotions at that moment. In his days Picasso was not yet recognized as an established painter, people labeled him as crazy due to his way of being and living. It was after his death that he was recognized as a genius painter. The Old Guitarist is oil on panel 48 3/8 x 32 1/2 in. (122.9 x 82.6 cm) in dimension. This painting doesn’t have that many shapes, but there are a few in plain sight I can describe. The ones most used are the common shapes circles, rectangles, ovals, and squares. Picasso's chose an old man as his subject. The old man is not only abandoned, but also trying to find a way to still live, holds to play the guitar. Picasso effectively outlined the man’s bony frame in order for the painting to create the effect. Picasso used different shades of blue from the old man’s skin, clothes, to the walls, and the ground on where the man sits complements the emotions the painting is supposed to bring. Picasso can relate to the painting, he was once one of the many people who had to beg for scraps from those of higher class. He too had to beg for pennies on the street to buy a small meal at a pub. Picasso chose this title as the painting depicts an old, blind, man with clothing too big for him, breaking at the weakly hunched over his guitar, playing in the streets of Barcelona. This painting is located in The Art Institute of Chicago, it is part of the Helen Birch Bartlett Memorial Collection. This paining as I've stated once before, represents the suffering we can see in the world today. How the hungry have to beg to be able to eat at least once a week. How only few are willing to help them out and even then, it's still not sufficient. In his time Picasso was known to be much of a strange person. He wasn't like the people who surrounded his town, every painting he has ever done is based on an emotion. For this particular painting it was sadness. Picasso gives the view point of those who have lost everything and now have to ask others for support. He shows how if no one helps those who need it they be left unwanted to wonder the streets begging for the leftovers people throw
