What do you think of when you hear dental specialties? I think of a variety of different dental fields that provide tons of oral health care for patients. There are seven different specialties in the dental field. Those specialties are Endodontic, General dentistry, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Oral surgery, Orthodontics, and Pediatric. In my essay I will be talking about the seven different specialties and what they consist of.

This leads me to my next specialty prosthodontics. Prosthodontics deals with 6 procedures they are crowns, bridges, veneers, inlays, onlays and partial dentures. Prosthodontics care is provided by both General dentists and prosthodontics specialists.
The difference between Prosthodontics and Periodontics is that Prosthodontics specializes in replacing any damaged tooth structure, hard and soft tissues of the mouth and missing teeth. A Periodontitis is a dentist who specializes in the prevention and treatment and diagnosis of periodontal disease. Periodontics deals with numerous amounts of patients with periodontal disease. Dentists have been around as long as man can remember. Early dentist were often the doctors or the barbers in the community. Early dentistry consisted mostly of pulling teeth. Anyone with a pair of pliers could do the job. Dentistry has evolved over the years and involves much more than just pulling teeth today. General Dentistry today involves many things including: oral hygiene, filling caries (cavities), root canals, crowns, and making dentures. Some dentists specialize in areas such as orthodontics or oral surgery.
Unfortunately, sometimes, your teeth die due to a fracture or some other problem. An extraction is the removal of a tooth that is no longer viable.
An orthodontist’s job is to identify the underlying problem of the teeth, identify the cause and proceed with the treatment based on his identifications. There are certain steps
After teeth are adjusted, maintaining their shape is fairly easy with retainers and casual check ups. A general dentist’s main focus is the teeth and gums. I decided to do my research report on dentistry because it is a perfect blend of science and art. It is a science in that you must fully comprehend on the different types of diagnostic and procedures you are doing. It is an art in that you are constantly working with your hands to create a beautiful smile. The impact you make on helping a person achieve an impeccable smile is not one to compare with materialistic things like money or cars. People often mistake dentist as only doing practices when in fact they could do more, like research. I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to interview Dr. Sarah Pham, DDS, a close family friend who practices dentistry in her own private office in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pham was
They then should look over the charts at the patient’s situation with their teeth and see what medical treatment they need. They then bring the patient in and perform the treatment. Lastly, they charge the patient for the certain treatments, like the cleaning, and then for say a filling, they will charge them separately, and then the patient will leave. Soon after, they will start all over again. Furthermore, there are a lot of skills required to be a Dental Hygienist, but yet simple ones.
To get an overview of other specialties I shadowed an implant specialist and an endodontist, where the dentist’s team working skills and the essential role of dental nurses became emphasised, in order to streamline the increasingly complex

Cosmetic dentistry is a specialized field that deals with improving the aesthetics of teeth and the human face. The teeth are an important part of human beauty. Even minor damage to the teeth, such as breakage or loss can drastically alter the overall appearance of the face. This is where cosmetic dentistry comes in to restore beauty. Cosmetic dentistry has become a highly specialized branch due to various advancements in surgical procedures and diagnostic techniques. Several new materials have also been discovered. These materials are very close to the natural enamel and bone from which teeth are made and are virtually indistinguishable.
