The Democratic Party, Republican Party, and Libertarian Party each have individual beliefs and opinions about various topics impacting our current society. By analyzing their platforms, we can gain a better understanding on how they approach these various topics and what their goals are for furthering our state. Through my analysis, I found some interesting beliefs within the Texas Democratic Party's platform, whose central principle is that “government exists to achieve together what we cannot achieve as individuals.” The first belief I analyzed deals with education – quality classroom learning environment – and I found myself in agreement with their ideology on this topic. The Democrats feel a crowded classroom impairs the instructors' ability to adequately teach along with the students ability to learn. Therefore, they support limits on class size for all grade levels. This action would effectively improve overall student performance because it increases focus within class and narrows the overwhelming student to teacher ratio, allowing for more one-on-one attention. From my experience, bilingual education was a disadvantage during my childhood. At the age of twelve, I was introduced into a bilingual classroom for the first time. The crowded classroom was a combination of seventh and eighth grade Spanish-speaking students, who ranged from the ages of twelve to fifteen. The idea of bilingual education was to help students who weren’t fluent in the English language. The main focus of bilingual education was to teach English and, at the same time, teach a very basic knowledge of the core curriculum subjects: Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences. Unfortunately, bilingual education had academic, psychological, and social disadvantages for me.

In a country such as Canada where there is an immensely diverse population that holds different ideals, values, and beliefs, it is necessary to have various political parties to reflect such things. Political parties are composed of people who share common goals and values based on an understanding of what is beneficial for the country, as well as themselves. These people are devoted to a specific approach in governing, and their philosophy is expressed in their policies, or platform. For these members to gain a position in the House of Commons in Canada, they must persuade voters of their electoral district to support their party’s platforms. Voters select their choice according to which party fosters the ideals closest to which they wish to be governed by. It is not reasonable to expect that the entire population will agree on every matter, which is precisely why modern democracy is executed through representation by vote. In order for there to be a true democracy in place, there must be choices for the voter. These choices translate into a system of values and principles, which in turn translate to these organized entities that we call political parties. This paper highlights the functions that political parties serve in the House of Commons, and also argues that they diminish the democratic characteristics and responsibilities of the House of Commons.
In 2009, teachers of a New Jersey school banned foreign languages and stated, “any language other than English will not be tolerated" (Debaron 1). This situation was soon no longer allowed. While over ten percent of the total adolescent education systems contain emergent bilinguals, a whopping sixty percent of those students are educated in only English (Bale). Maria Estela Brisk, a Boston College Education professor, believes, “schools has wasted much energy in the search for a "perfect" model and the best way to learn English” when they could just focus on proving “quality education” to every student in the system (1). Teacher’s main priority should consist of effectively teaching their students to prepare them for the future, but currently there are a lack of certified bilingual education teachers.
