The five most important things I have learned this week are: The five Principles of American Democracy. 1. Equality in voting. 2. Individual freedom. 3. Equal protection under the law. 4. Majority rule and minority rights. 5. Voluntary consent to be governed. These were the five fundamental principles women were not allowed to vote until August 18, 1920 when the 19th amendment guaranteed all American women the right to vote. The voting act of 1965 block barriers from state levels to allow African Americans to exercise their right to vote. Additionally how people could have individual freedom that did not infringe on the rights of other citizens. Equal protection under the law must apply to all people to equal protection.
