Who suffers from Deforestation in the Amazon?
Introduction
Deforestation is a major environmental dilemma not to mention one of the major contributors of global warming, as it constitutes 20% of the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. This is mainly due to the cutting and burning of trees commonly referred to as the ‘slash and burn technique’ used for clearing land. Land settlement, urbanization, cattle ranches, construction of highways after the capital of Brazil was relocated as suggested by Moran (149) all in the name of development. Other causes include mining, oil and gas extraction, cattle ranching and ‘cash crops’.
