Reading is known as a window of world because reading can give much kind of knowledge and information which exist in the world. According to Anderson (1985), reading is a process of constructing meaning from written text. Reading can be defined as a complex skill requiring the combination of the number of interrelated sources of information. Reading is one of the skills which can empower all the people who learn English. In learning English, Reading is one of the receptive skills which must be mastery by the students. Through reading, students could receive more knowledge and fulfill their need for information and knowledge that they need. According to Bottino (n/d) stated that reading can be define as a process of looking at and understanding what is written. It means that when the students reading something (such as book, magazine, newspaper etc.) is a process of looking at the information that provide on the written text.
Reading also can define as the ability to read and interpret a meaning from varied text (Tadros, 2014). Another definition of reading is stated by Schoenbach (n/d), reading is a simple process reader decode (figure how to pronounce) each word in text and then automatically comprehend the meaning of the word as they do with their own language. It means that reading is not only a process of looking at the information but also the process of understand the meaning of the text whether it is in native language or second language.
Reading skill is a cognitive ability of a person which is able to use when interacting with the written text. Reading skill is identically as task –oriented. According to Perfetty (2001), a reading skill is an individual’s standing on some reading assessment. It means that the skilled reader is someone who the score above some standard on this assessment meanwhile reader who low skill are those who score below some
