What is Cute?
"Cute" is an aesthetic or action that is considered endearing, pleasing, or charming. Usually we find soft, round, small, delicate things adorable whether it’s something like a puppy or an inanimate object. The reason is simple; its natures way of making sure we take care of our helpless offspring that depend on us for years, in other words humans finding things adorable is essential to our species survival. Any time we see something resembling or having baby like features dopamine is released and we immediately dote over the source of cute. This so called "cute effect" is so rooted in our nature that it even effects people who don’t even like babies or who have never had any children. Just as stated before; people find qualities found in babies cute, this is even true for people who don’t necessarily like children. But what about babies do people find so appealing that they decide to have them? It certainly isn't the crying, constant care, or the smelly dippers. The truth is in the odd proportion that babies have; the big round head with even bigger eyes, and the small squishy body with even smaller and squishier limbs attached to it. In short humans are drawn to big eyes, soft round shapes, and small proportion sizes that match up with babies. This aesthetic can be found in both animals and objects alike: stuffed animals, small pets, dolls, cartoons, or anything really. We can make things cuter simply by making it smaller and rounder, for example; which would people be more likely to find charming; a normal horse or a miniature horse?
