The term success can be used in a variety of connotations. Success is an arbitrary word, viewed, achieved, and judged differently by many people, groups and organizations. Success is set by what goals you give yourself and then later in life achieve. Everyone has different ambitions that once accomplished, may make them successful. Most people work hard throughout their whole life to achieve the things they desire and refer to that as being successful. Success is not only measured with material goods, but is rather tied to broader concepts such as wealth, happiness, and achievement.
In today's society, people often believe that the only way to be successful is by being wealthy. For instance, some people feel that if they reach a certain income level, they will finally be successful. Money is so essential to everyday life so most think the more of it they have, the easier life will be. In this case, someone’s success is based off their wealth because people are materialistic and view money as a level of successfulness. For example Bill Gates, the creator of Microsoft, dropped out of college, which to some people, the thought that he may become unsuccessful would be present in their minds. Happiness for most people is a strong, healthy, and loving family. If this is someone’s definition of success, than their family is what defines their success. For some, this success might mean trying new things and a lifestyle that supports it. If you can look at the things you have and things you personally have accomplished and feel happy with no regrets, then you would be considered successful. However, if you look back and realize you could have done more and feel a certain disappointment, you would not be considered successful. Success is directly proportionate to happiness.
