Success can mean so many different things to so many different people. For someone, success can mean being rich. For another, success can mean being educated. Many people have different ideas of success. Where, however, can success be found? Can you just wake up one morning and already be successful? The harsh truth, is no. You can’t just wake up successful. You have to actually work hard (which some people in our generation don’t understand). Where and how can someone work to be successful? What are the steps a person in this generation can take, in order to be successful in the future? You can’t just show up the first three weeks and ask for time off because you don’t feel like going to work today. The honest truth is that nobody likes to work. Am I right? Who wakes up in the morning and says “Woo-hoo! It’s time for work!” Let me tell you, I’ve never met anybody with that mindset. It’s just the truth, you’re not going to want to work, but you have to. Your boss isn’t going to care if you’re sick or tired. They get that every day, a different call from a different employee, saying a different excuse. They’ve heard it all. They don’t care, though. They really don’t. As Matt Walsh said in his blog, “Millions of people are sick and tired. Millions of people’s dogs just died. Millions are struggling. Nobody understands anyone else’s pain and suffering. Everyone’s life is hard. Nobody on this planet has an easy life… we might as well just get up and get on with it.”

In Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell explains, with examples of successful people throughout history, that hard work along with a little bit of luck and willingness to seize every opportunity is the only way to become successful. Malcolm Gladwell illustrates throughout the story external factors that are mostly uncontrollable and internal factors like hard work that are very controllable lead to these outliers and unimaginable success stories.
Success is all around us. As we look around, we see new technology advancements, new businesses being constructed, and personal goals being met. The world is constantly growing when success is achieved. There are countless, distinctive stories that end with a successful outcome and originated from various beginnings. Some of which we see within our own walls. Yes, we constantly look at the final product, but have we ever wondered how that success came to be? My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’

Although it is impossible to live in a truly equal world the desire of success overpowers the goals of any other, and many people aim for the same goals. A lot of people may doubt their ability to reach success because of their failed intentions to target a specific goal. They may have vague expectations, but not a true measure of what a favorable outcome for them might be. Herman Cain, an American business politician, believes that success is not found in happiness. Rather, happiness is the key to success. If one loves what they are doing, they will be successful. He claims, “Success is a way of life and not something that you bump into one day down the road. In order to define success in relation to this statement, first define what it means to live successfully” (qtd. in Art 27) No matter what the level of intensity a task might bring, one should always look into accomplishing their objectives. The road to becoming a successful person requires overall development and understanding of the risks, skills, knowledge, and power involved in achieving the various goals one may have.
Success is an incredible topic. A person could analyze success, successful people and similar ideas for decades and still not fully understand it. There are many layers and areas of success.
