Dedication To the track! To the wall! It is gone and the crowd goes wild! This is the sound of a professional baseball player hitting a homerun. Many people love the sport of baseball but most of them do not know what it actually takes to be a player. Throughout the year a professional baseball player is constantly involved with aspects of the sport. Being able to maintain this takes a numerous amount of dedication from the players. Loss of sleep, sacrifice of time, and being able to constantly travel shows how much dedication a professional baseball player has. Throughout the year a baseball player gives numerous amount of hours to baseball. Weekdays through weekends, a baseball player is constantly playing. During the year a player has a regular season in which games go on and an off season in which training happens. During the regular season, a professional baseball player plays three games every four days. On the extra day they have a practice. With this being said, there is no free time left within the regular playing season. During the off season a professional baseball player has more time than the regular season but still not as much as someone who does not play baseball. Every morning of an off season a player has to go work out to maintain strength. Many of the workouts can take up to three hours. This means a baseball player has three hours less throughout the day. A non baseball player has enough free time to do fun stuff like go out to the movies. A baseball player does not even have enough time to go home, relax, and watch tv. ... room for adults to be playing a child’s game instead of going to school. If athletes want to play that bad because they feel that they are good enough then they have to make sacrifices. I am not against talented individuals playing professional sports but I am against those who do not obtain a degree and actually get something out of college before doing so. Written in an article published by USA Today “in 2009 that 78 percent of NFL players are bankrupt or facing serious financial stress within two years of ending their playing careers and that 60percent of NBA players are broke within five years of retiring from the game” (Wiles, 2012). Professional athletics is not all about fame and being filthy rich and this is something that young college students don’t understand. It is essential to better yourself and obtain a degree, there is more to life than just sports.
Willie Mays once said “In order to excel, you must be completely dedicated to your chosen sport. You must also be prepared to work hard and be willing to accept constructive criticism. Without one-hundred percent dedication, you won't be able to do this” In order to succeed it’s required to put everything on the line to survive in the world of sports. Without devoting to sports there is no correct path to success. Nobody will be on the level of competition. Dedication also comes into play where people will need to be better in other areas. Technique is another must have to be involved with sports. If its not possible to do something right then try over and over until it is. Speed is needed to be able to get place to place or to shoot a swift shot. Working out lower body will help with strength which comes back to dedication. Therefore, everything comes back to each other and helps be better, faster, harder, and stronger.

Baseball is known as America’s national pastime, and has been played for over 100 years. Baseball can be a lot of fun, but is also extremely challenging to play, especially trying to hit a 90 mile per hour fastball. I am a very devoted baseball player myself, and over the years I have learned numerous key things about the game. Baseball does not only require physical strength to hit and throw the ball, but it also requires a great mindset, such as, mental preparedness, concentration, and a positive attitude.
One crowd was made up of middle-aged college graduates who played division one sports. The supplemented group comprised of middle-aged college graduates who did not participate in sports. The study showed they were in much poorer physical condition, and agonized from a number of things including depression, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. Non-athletes portrayed much less signs of wear and tear. The fact that they do not get paid is only part of the problem.
Before the World Series games between the Chicago White Sox’s and Cincinnati Reds began, America had just witnessed the end of the first World War. A war that not only took men of draft age from their everyday jobs (that did not aid to support the war) but baseball players as well were forced to either join the military or find employment that aided the war. In addition, baseball players, during this time, had once again fallen into the disadvantages of the reverse clause which cut even the best players pay tremendously.
Another restraint to college athletes working is a time restraint. College athletes have very busy schedules they follow and when finished with their schedules they are left with very little free time. Student athletes are required to take a minimum of twelve credit hours to start the semester and required to pass at least nine credit hours by the end of the semester. With this standard having to be met, the athletes are spending hours studying and attending class. Besides from studying and attending class the athletes then have to go to practice. Going to practice and participating takes up about four to seven hours of the athlete’s day. After all of this is completed, the athletes are left with only a couple of hours for them to enjoy time with their friends or even to just relax and watch a movie. But, because these athletes are college students and do not receive any money for their commitments they are supposed to squeeze time in for work in. If athletes apply for a job they are limited to only a couple of hours a day to work. Also a large number of jobs request their employees to be available on the weekends.
Playing a sport in college is equivalent to working a full-time job (Thomas). There are rules that allow major-college football coaches to only demand twenty hours of the players time each week (Wieberg). However, studies show that those athletes are doubling those hours per week during the season (Wieberg). Other sports are putting in the equivalent of a full time work week (Wieberg). Some NCAA officials are concerned with the amount of time spent stating that beyond forty hours is inhumane (Wieberg). Most of the athletes compete and do whatever it takes to succeed, so they enjoy spending countless hours on sports (Wieberg). Many athletes even have struggles in the classroom because they do not have enough time to study. Some players started playing in big teams such as LA Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Texas Rangers. Other players started from minor league. MLB is not anymore game for only American people. Fans from all over around the world want to watch ball game through broadcasting. In America, there are a few baseball players who came from South Korea, and they are doing well in MLB teams. Since baseball became so popular sports and international business, players got paid lots of money, and the reporters wants to disclose their private life of famous players in order to sell more and more issues of newspapers. Sometimes, they are trying to dig out something embarrassed stuff about certain player by tailing after them. Such a behavior of reporters can be the cause of an accident between baseball players and reporters such as arguing, or fighting. What I am going to write down and argue about is an accident which was happened between reporter of sports news paper and a baseball player.
Growing up, I have always had a passion for baseball. To me, it is much more than just a sport. There have been times when it has acted as an escape from many problems in my life, as I feel that when I am on the diamond, nothing can hurt me. I am aware that many people feel this way about the sport they love, but sadly their careers often come to an abrupt end due to injury. I have a personal connection to this experience.

With about 83 players currently to in the MLB, 682 players since 1950, and so far 2 players in the Hall of Fame with much more to get inducted, it’s clear that the Dominican Republic dominates the game of baseball. In the Dominican Republic, baseball is the country’s pastime and official sport. Baseball doesn’t discriminate, regardless of gender, race, and economic status. In my personal view, baseball runs in the blood and embedded in the genetic coding of Dominicans. As a person whose mother and father are Dominican and born and raised in Miami, there seems to be little to nothing that connects me to their culture. Baseball has always been America’s natural past time. Many fans love watching baseball but do not realize how hard it is to prepare for a season. Most fans think the players just show up on the first day. I think this belief is completely false. I feel that preparing for a baseball season requires much preparation. The preparation I use includes working on my swing, working out, and studying other people’s ideas on hitting. These steps are necessary for me to have a successful season. These steps have proven to be a valuable aid in helping me to prepare for the season. I believe these steps are the basic steps to becoming a great baseball player.
Some question the amount of time you have to put in. Others complain about how much it costs. To me, these would only be relevant if I didn't love the game as much as I do. The amount of time I have put into baseball is immeasurable at this point. I've also poured in more resources than just money. I've poured in my blood, sweat, and tears into the sport. That goes the same with any other topic that I love. If a person truly loves their hobby(whatever it may be) then they are willing to pour in countless hours or any amount of money into it. Another more rational argument is that people don't want to miss important events that happen with their families. A baseball game is an event that my family comes out to. They love to watch me play and I love hearing them cheer me on. In reality, very few games that I have conflict with my private affairs. If they do happen to conflict, I simply try to arrive as soon as possible. In terms of confliction, communication is key. If someone can't accept the fact that you may be late or not be there, that is their fault. I could always tell one of my coaches that I couldn't make a game. They will understand. People have things going on in their lives daily, I'm no exception. The best thing I've learned from these questions is that most things have an answer. You just have to find ways to get solve
Many people don't understand the point in playing baseball. Why would someone swing a stick, hit a ball, and try to get back to where they started before the ball returns? What pleasure is there in that? Why not participate in a sport like wrestling or track where there is an obvious level of individual improvement and therefore pleasure. Well, I play baseball because of the love I have for the sport, and because of the feeling that overwhelms me every time I walk onto a baseball field. When I walk onto a field I am given the desire to better myself not only as an athlete, but also as a person. The thoughts and feelings I get drive me to work hard towards my goals and to be a better person. The most relevant example of these feelings is when I stepped on the field at Runyon Complex in Pueblo, Colorado during our high school state playoffs in 2003. This baseball field will always be an important place to me.
