North Korea, a country that in 1945 emerged as one of the most industrialized societies in Asia decline to the point of famine and near-collapse over five-decades by making poor choices that were made by its leader throughout the time. After the separation of north and South Korea, the North became communism, and south became Capitalist. As communism was supported by Soviet Union and China, they helped North Korea to escalate its economy, but their leader Kim Il-Sung fails to maintain the economy. The reasons why North Korea's economic declined are not focusing on the problem, focused on heavy industry, and pride/maintain image.

Another bad choice of Kim Il-Sung that became one of the reason of North Korea's decline was an idea of "self-reliance" which built the boundaries for certain things …show more content…

For example, according to "Five Bad Decision" they failed several mega-projects which caused billions of loss, but still they built a stadium to show Seoul Olympic like they were hosting their own Olympics, "Spending somewhere in the range of $4 to $9 billion, the North built, a breakneck pace, 260 major facilities in two years, among them 12 athletic facilities, including a 4,000-seat table-tennis stadium, 3,000-seat badminton stadium, and the 150,000-seat Rungrado May Day stadium, which was the largest stadium ever build at the time in Asia." The evidence provided above provokes that even after North Korea's great loss in money, they still wanted to show the world that they can build stadium, but the money they used wasn’t their but Soviet Union's. They could have used that money in something better like feeding their citizens. The reason why they spent money on all this projects was to maintain their image of non-poverty.
