For my second primary source paper I chose document 22-3 “From the Declaration of the
Rights of Woman”. This document was written by a group of woman in hope that they could receive equal rights as men, this document is important because it begins to show us how far along women’s rights have come. “Woman is born free a lives equal to man in her rights”(,), this quote is from Article I in the Rights of Woman, it truly shows the whole meaning of the whole document. Woman should not be treated differently than men just because of their sex, woman can have a different outlook on life than a man.
Although, there is a little bias argument in my head when I read “the sex that is as superior in beauty” (,), I feel like that part should be left out because it reminders readers of the stereotypical opinion that women are only known for their beauty. (,) This gives women the chance to be independent from men, they no longer have to rely on a man for everything. This is a huge step for women, it is now being more socially acceptable for women to be single and take care of themselves. Woman will now be able to not have to get married if they do not feel it is necessary, they can be an independent single mother with their own home without a man involved.
This document is significant to history, because men were originally superior to women at this time. For most women this was an unimaginable experience, it was never even a thought in their head that they could ever be equal to a man. This has brought society more as one, people are more accepting of the fact that women have power and can speak freely.
