It’s hard to believe how making one decision can impact and shape your life for the future. According to Google, decision-making is the action or process of making decisions, especially important ones. While discussing this important topic, decision-making, I’ve come across some things I’ve learned and how they can impact my life. First, impulsive decisions can lead to bad outcomes. In the short story, The Monkey’s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs, the story is based around the idea; think more about a decision than quickly resolving one. Secondly, deciding to run away from your problems can lead to an even greater one. Also, in Edgar Allen Poe’s short story, The Masque of the Red Death states, “With these retired to the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys” (390). The ruler of this territory invites his friends to an area completely deprived of the ‘Red Death” for they won’t suffer from the plague that has been spreading. He does this because he feels as if he leaves the problem alone then it’ll go away, but that is not the case. To continue with, Poe reveals, “And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all” (394). Running away from the problem has led them to the Red Death having endless control over all the people for they are unable to escape it. Instead of facing their problem and letting time and fate do their thing, the ruler decided to take his fate upon his own hands and decides the better decision would be to run away from it, thus ending with a brutal expiry upon all that ran away from the “Red Death”.
