In my personal opinion about this very datable topic, “Does Increased Dependence on Laptops, Cell Phones, and PDAs Hurt Employee Productivity?” is that I believe it does hurt the employee productivity. I feel that if the usage of our cell phones, laptops, and other PDAs at work are to be reduced, it will make the employees focus more on their work. Most employees argue that they are taking notes during meetings and are recording the conversations; however, I question if that is what they are really doing. In today’s age technology is constantly being upgraded and improved. Because of the constant upgrading it is not in the companies favor when it comes to being cost-effective. A company has to continuously train their employees each time a new program or software is introduced to the company. This requires money and time; two areas of the business that is extremely important. When employees are being trained in other areas, this takes away time from their regular job and can put the company behind on their schedule. I cannot forget how excited I was when I first bought my own computer. Like a mother who spends time sewing and knitting for her newborn baby, I spent hours and hours to sparkle my computer. I waited a long time to buy a brand new computer. I had to work more hours and saved money to buy a computer. I did not want to buy a cheap computer, but I wanted to buy a professional one. Was I professional on computer? No! I was not. I did not even know how to type, but I was sure that my expensive com puter could make me a computer expert. 17 inches monitor, color printer, two speakers and well-designed fancy keyboard made me just happy by looking at them on my desk.
