Dear incoming first-year students, college is an experience you will never forget. You will learn how to prepare for exams, take notes, deal with stress, learn to be independent and having fun at college. For all of your courses, there will be exams, oh so many exams. You will quickly learn that slacking off is not an option but in your mind it will be. In one of my courses, I took exams about every three weeks. I did not have the time to slack off and procrastinate (even though I did sometimes). To prepare for exams you will need to be able to understand yourself. Know who you are as a test taker, whether you are good at it or not. Once you are able to understand that, you can figure out the best ways to study for an exam. There is a plethora of ways to study for an exam. Some people like to rewrite the notes they took in class to help them remember better. This does go hand in hand with learning to be independent and dealing with stress. This will help you destress and force you to make decisions you don’t want to. There are many ways to have fun in college. A few consists of making friends, going out with them, going to the Fit & Rec, going to parties and just doing whatever makes you happy. You will get the “college experience” if you have fun and not go through college with a really strict mentality. You will make friends and get invited out. There will even be parties that you will be invited to and will go to. Remember to be responsible and take charge of your actions. There will be times when your friends invite you out or there is a party you want to go to but you have an exam or class the next day. It is wise to choose to not go out and study instead because then you will not regret it and will be glad you chose not to go out because it will end up reflecting on your
