Deanna Tynes Favre is an American activist for the fight against the disease of breast cancer. After being diagnosed in 2004 she started the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation to raise money and awareness for women around the country. She is the wife of NFL quarterback Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers and has two beautiful daughters. She is now a proud survivor of breast cancer and shares a strong belief in God as a Catholic.
Deanna was born December 1968 in Kiln, Mississippi. She was born to Ann, a single mother. When Deanna was young her mother married a man named Kerry Tynes. Deanna was later adopted by Kerry and acquired two siblings, a half-sister Christie and a half-brother Casey.

She was only 35 years old, was very healthy, and had no history of breast cancer running in her family. Because of Brett’s stardom Deanna’s private cancer nightmare became public news, and to make matters worse, it was still only a few days after her brother’s funeral.
Deanna was a God-fearing woman and never felt it right for her to question God as to why she developed cancer, but some answers to the questions she was wondering about were found in chemotherapy. Deanna received letters from women all around the world sharing their stories and thanking her for the motivation to have breast exams. They offered lots of encouragement and prayers, which helped Deanna greatly while getting through her cancer treatment.
Deanna finished her last radiation treatment in February 2005. When she heard the doctor say her cancer was finally eradicated she knew she could just slip back into life’s comfortable rhythm, but realized her existence had been forever changed. Deanna now believes she sees through different eyes. Trivial things like getting dressed, driving her daughter to school, and sitting on the sofa in Brett’s arms are now very precious to Deanna, and she will never take these things for granted again (Favre, Deanna …show more content…

The hats outsold regular hats in the first half of 2005. Deanna then decided she wanted to do more to help with Breast cancer, she started a foundation.
Deanna created the Deanna Favre HOPE Foundation which supports breast cancer education, women’s breast imaging, and diagnostic services for all women including the medically underserved. The organization focused on underinsured and uninsured women. Deanna knew how expensive cancer was, and knew that women with little or no insurance could not afford treatment. One shot could sometimes cost over five thousand dollars! The foundation had raised around $500,000 as of October 2007 (Deanna Favre).
Brett and Deanna are now very blessed financially, but they still have vivid memories of the days where they had to struggle to make ends meet. Deanna created the HOPE Foundation for underinsured and uninsured because most organizations only collect money to donate for the research aspect of Breast Cancer. Deanna knew that it would be a better help to focus specifically on helping women who are struggling to pay for their medical bills. The foundation also provides women with money to provide for their families through the whole process. Deanna knows if she would have been diagnosed with breast cancer when she was a single parent she would have never been able to afford good medical care (Favre, Deanna Letter).
