A groom and bride come together, and the bride doesn’t desire to marry this person but she is doing for her parents. This bride and groom are not going to have a successful marriage because the bride is not fully willing to marry this person. This is why love marriage is superior. The couple will have a stronger bond and will have a better understanding with each other. They will also be less likely to have a divorce because they are the ones that decided to fall in love with each other and decided to spend the rest of their lives together. Unlike arranged marriages, love marriages are more prosperous. Love marriages are more successful because they have better understanding of each other, in arranged marriages there most likely abuse each other each other, and they have more natural love. …show more content…
“The pair know each other well, before they are going to be husband and wife” (Source A). This proves that the couple will have a strong bond before and after they get married. In Source B, Kargara Afghani girl, “forced” into arranged marriage and stated that her marriage had started off miserably with her husband not trusting her. If this was a love marriage this would not happen because they wouldn’t be in love if they didn’t trust each other. In Source C,Mangili a Indian girl, was also placed into an arranged marriage. Her husband had heard rumors that she was alongside another man but she wasn’t and he didn’t trust her even though she told the truth. That’s why people should have an love
According to the author, Lizette Alvarez, in the article “Arranged Marriages Get a Little Reshuffling”, Arranged marriages are better than modern marriages and parents can choose good mates for young. First, the arranged marriage has changed a lot in modern time. Arranged marriages are more flexible because young people can meet several times in some public venues without family members. Parents and elders have become more lenient. Second, arranged marriages have more advantages than modern marriages. Arranged marriages can preserve religion and identity and help people to find their mates in the same social class. Arranged marriages can outlast modern marriages because couples can avoid social and religions disharmony. Finally, young people prefer arranged marriage to modern marriage. Young people would spend less time to find their mate because their parents, chat rooms and dating websites help find mates for them. Young people can easily find their mates who have the same education level and social status. As a young person, I do not agree with the author because other people migh...
However, there is evidence of a positive correlation between love and the length of an arranged marriage (Epstein, Pandit, & Thakar, 2013). Furthermore, the authors summarized previous research findings in which researchers found arranged marriages had a higher level of satisfaction than love marriages in modern civilizations. The fact that both of these trends have come up shows that some western arguments against arranged marriages are founded upon inaccurate
Some of these marriages are extremely dysfunctional while others seem to be practical. These marriages are considered different from forced marriages and are an acceptable type of marriage in Afghan society. Some arranged marriages lead to poor or horrific outcomes for the brides in order to separate from her spouse. Occasionally these marriages shift into being forced marriages. In the article “Afghan girls bound by family betrothals” the author states “In Kapisa province, just north of Kabul, an 18-year-old girl shot and killed herself because her family would not break off her three-year-engagement to a drug addict.” This exhibits how certain family’s decisions for their children are atrocious. In addition it shows how an arranged marriage turned into a forced marriage. At times young women may run away from as a threat tactic to their family reported by the article “Afghan girls bound by family betrothals.” A 17-year-old girl who ran away from her home for a few days resulted in her parents letting her marry the man that she loved rather than who they set her up with. This shows how some parents would be tolerant enough to let his own daughter marry the person she
In a scene the film Ravi goes to a wedding in India where a family member is being wedded. Ravi asked if he was happily marrying his wife, in love, and not having second doubts, all his family member expressed was no remorse, but it seemed as if it was something casual for him, it was necessary to marry, and that the bride he had chosen was approved from his parents, and the community of Patels. It seemed that throughout the film arrange marriage is viewed as normal in India, they don’t seem to ask their children if they’re happy about being arrangbeds into a marriage, it something that when you come of age you have to do. However in Indians living in America are challenging their parents and their cultures religion of arranged marriage. In America they are looking at the diverse cultures and falling love with people outside their culture, and making work, while others are still in the biodata and probably decided to marry into a Patel or other Indian name, yet still experienced dating other men before deciding. What was weird is that some Indian women don’t date until later in their college years when they are away because of the strict household their parents had and from fear of disappointing their family, and being
In the article, “The Radical Idea of Marrying for Love” author Stephanie Coontz argues that love is not a good enough reason to get married. People shouldn’t marry just because they love one another, Coontz suggests that perhaps marriage should be based on how well a couple gets along and whether or not if the significant other is accepted by the family. One will notice in the article that Coontz makes it very clear that she is against marrying because of love. In the article is a bit of a history lesson of marriage and love within different cultures from all over the world. Coontz then states her thesis in the very end of the article which is that the European and American ways of marriage is the
The Indians practice of arranged marriages is to protect the strengths of their families. They too look to keep the beliefs and cultures strong within their dynasty. Families search out and find perspective brides and grooms for their sons and daughters. This allows for their sons and daughters to be more focused on school and work not really much different then marrying someone you already know. We must also look at the Hindus in southern India and their consanguinity, although there uncle-niece marriages were the socially preferred. Medical problems existed strong in these unions; the DNA was just to close causing birth defects to multiply in the offspring.
While society has heavily embedded the idea of love into marriage, the actual applications of marriage does not incorporate love into it. Love and marriage are a thing that has been disconnected for a long time, yet the restrictions that have plagued marriage are the same restrictions that affect love due to the heavy mental connection that culture created with marriage. Abuse of the systems that marriage creates is a main reason for the failure of love. When someone can use marriage to gain something material, people will not marry who they love and ruin the concept of marriage. This is due to the heavily embedded bureaucracy that has found itself weaved into something that should merely be a sign of commitment and love towards another person.
One of the main arguments for arranged marriages is that parents, being older and more experienced, are better able to find a suitable match for their children. This belief relies on the trust the offspring has that their parents understand what would be best choice or most suitable for their children. This trust is often discouraged by the individualist ideal and rebel teen mentality sponsored by American mass-media. However, in India trust between parent and child are common. When Nanda tried helping arrange a marriage, we see that parents in India weigh many considerations when choosing partners for their children including the statuses of the individuals (including their caste and career path), the social dynamics between the members of both households, and what resources the other family and potential partner have. At least in the case given in the reading, this process can be though and produce a good marriage with stable family ties. Another argument made for arranged marriage is that since the parents are handling the marriage, the children are free to enjoy life and not worry about the details. To a lesser degree in our country, people delegate part of the relationship forming process to others by allowing friends, family, and dating sites or shows to play matchmaker. Though in general, in America the person who would be in the relationship is more involved, and has to worry about handling some of the details. In India, culture is more dependent on family structure so marriage is just as much about forming ties between families as the couple itself, which is part of the reason why the family is so involved in these
Arranged marriages have been around for a while and they still are. In some countries arranged marriages are actually tradition but it is wrong to arrange a marriage for necessity instead of love. Did you know that arranged marriages can be annulled? You can legally annul your arranged marriage with a legal court session. With arranged marriages, you hurt your children more than help them. By marrying them at a young age, they don't get much education. Arranged Marriages are cruel because people deserve the choice of who they marry and a chance of love.
Love marriages are very rare, although little by little they tend to develop. As for mixed marriages between people of different religions or castes, they remain exceptions to this day.
Arranged Marriage. Does it really represent true love? According to Australian Government: Attorney-Generals Department, "Arranged marriage is a forced marriage is when a person gets married without freely and fully consenting, because they have been coerced, threatened or deceived." Arranged Marriages do not allow men and women to express themselves through marriage. The soon-to-be couple have no say of who they want to marry, their parents pick out a soulmate for them. In arranged marriage you're being forced to commit your life and heart to a complete stranger. In a love marriage the couple knows each other's strength and weaknesses. In an arranged marriage some don't know their spouse's background information and they don't know how to handle each other. Being forced to get marriage is not always everyone's first decision.
The concept of love marriage is a relatively new ideology that has taken society by storm. In the past, love marriages were unspeakable and even unthinkable. Marriage based on love was never really prioritized as something important compared to other things in society. People were always more concerned with more pressing matters such as the preservation of humankind, honor, power and other similar things of that nature. Marriage fits under the pretense of forever, especially since divorce was highly stigmatized for the most part during that time and just the consideration would attract a lot of negative attention.
From the beginning of time, mankind has been using the practice of arranged marriages to join man and woman together. From cavemen hitting a woman over the head and dragging her to his cave, to a more modern way of a man asking a woman to marry him. Arranged marriages in India has many negative impacts on the community, through violence from forced marriages is one of many. Although arranged marriages do not always create violence, arranged marriages have many advantages. The practice of arranged marriages in India has a negative impact on a community by causing violence, less personal security, and a lower financial status.
Arranged marriage is much more effortless and like a short cut of love because the tedious and intricate process of maintaining the relationship and dating is omitted and they are under the influence of the same culture, share the same religious conviction and grow up in a similar social class. Individuals incline to an unvarnished and easeful lifestyle and the marriage does not occupy as the same ratio of life as five to ten years ago. On the one hand, boys may save the money which is used on dating because they do not need to buy too many things that pleased the girl. Moreover, in several circumstances, a date or a courtship is quite embarrassing and time-consuming especially for the adults who were forced to have a date under the pressure of their parents even from their grandparents. On the other hand, the spouse can cut down on the daily expense because their children will be nursed by their parents rather than babysitters and their children can live in a warm environment and a harmony atmosphere and feel more comfortable without strangers. Arranged marriages, according to the marriage experience of the parents and the marriage agency, alw...
Love marriages and arranged marriages can both be justified, and they can both be disagreed upon for good reasons. The culture is what defines each marriage, supporting one belief or another. Although both can be justified, the definition of the two marriages are very different, Regardless of the way of marriage, they are very common. Having introduced to your better half unintentionally may be a love marriage but a third party still played a role in it makes it an arranged
