Day of the Dead is a holiday for people to honor their ancestors and loved ones who have passed away and invite those spirits back into their homes to be part of the family once more. Halloween and Day of the Dead have similarities which are that both holidays have costumes, skeletons, and treats as well as graveyards, and decorations. The symbol for Halloween is a pumpkin or a ghost. The Day of the Dead symbol is
Foreigners have more trouble understanding Dia de Los Muertos than any of Mexico's other celebrations. At first glance, they see Day of the Dead decorations which are colored paper garlands, little skeletons performing daily tasks and sugar skulls inscribed with names, which remind them of Halloween. Other tourists discover that much like Memorial or Remembrance Day in the US, families here visit, clean and decorate graves of loved ones for the November 1 and 2 holidays. Many families honor their ancestors and dead with different traditions, which I will be telling u about.
In Night of the Living Dead, the zombies were eventually eliminated. Or were they? Theorists argue that the monster’s elusiveness is due to its physical, psychological and social characteristics that cross the lines of classification. Human’s innate fear of the unknown is due to their inability to make a distinction or draw a clear conclusion. This is explained further in Jeffrey Cohen’s second thesis in “Monster Theory” that claims that; “the monster never escapes” (Cohen, 14). The zombie as a monster can never be destroyed completely and if it is, it leaves a remnant the make people feel uncertain of its destruction. Base on Cohen’s theory, the zombie’s different interpretation allows it to emerge in other forms (a faster, smarter zombie?)
It originates from the Aztecs. Although the exact date of when this celebration began is unknown, it’s estimated
“Tis now the very witching time of night, when churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out contagion to this world.” This quote by William Shakespeare accurately sums up many cultures’ feelings towards modern-day Halloween. But where did Halloween originate? While there are several different ideas, the one that seems to be the most popular is that Halloween originated from an ancient Celtic rite called Samhain (pronounced sah-win). Halloween has strong roots in Paganism, which is the cause of negative connotations with Christian religion. Many modern Halloween traditions and symbols started
Holidays like Halloween and Christmas are celebrated differently here in the U.S. In Mexico, Day of the Dead is celebrated and not Halloween. Grande describes a typical Day of the Dead celebration, “We would have been decorating our altar with candles and marigolds and plates of food for our dead relatives to enjoy” (177), in addition, people celebrate by visiting the grades of the deceased. Christmas in Mexico, the presents are exchanged on the Day of the Three Wise Men, January 6. She recounts, “kids looked forward to, when our bellies would be stuffed like piñata with peanuts, jicamas, candy, oranges, and sugarcane” (135), and churches reenact the journey of Mary and Joseph to

The whole idea that Halloween is held to, the spooky nature, has a lot to do with the Celts; this was a celebration for the dead in Celtic culture. The Celts believed that souls of the dead both malignant and pure dwelled on the physical realm on those specific days celebrated, therefore a door was open between a physical and a spiritual realm for the time being. The Celts held rituals on these dates, they celebrated and feasted; October 31st was the eve before their celebrations, November 1 was their new years. Sam...
Halloween is a holiday which has been around for a lot longer than many may think. Even the traditions which seem so modern and economically rooted are almost as old as the tradition of Halloween itself. There is a lot of confusion as to when the tradition of Halloween began. Many think that Halloween began with the Celts. The Celts celebrated Samhain which was a holiday that symbolized the end of the time of the light and the beginning of the time of the dark. During the time of the dark it was said that the wall between the spirit world and that of the living was weakened and spirits were able to obtain access to the living more easily. Hence this could be one of the reasons children today think of Halloween as a scary holiday, they unknowingly are going along with ancient traditions.

On this day you will see many children and some times adults dressed up in costumes like
Most Halloween traditions that we take part it have evolved from some type of Celtic custom. However, these traditions have changed quite a bit. Halloween has evolved from a very religious holiday to a holiday that mainly focuses on candy and fun. Halloween is an annual holiday celebrated on the 31st of October. Millions of people around the world celebrate Halloween, incorporating their own beliefs and traditions into the holiday. For some Halloween is seen as a day to celebrate those that have passed from this life, while others see the holiday as a descendant of pagan rituals and beliefs. Regardless of how you celebrate the holiday, the history of Halloween remains the same.
Halloween started about 2,000 years ago as the night before the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, where it is believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. Also according to the article the history or Halloween “Druids (Celtic persist) built huge sacred bonfires, where the people gathered to burn crops and animals as sacrifices to the Celtic deities. During the celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal heads and skins, and attempted to tell each other’s fortunes.”. Then by the 8th century the Christian turn Samhain into All Saints Day or All Hallows and the night before then became All Hallows Eve. Then it was later changed into Halloween. Then the American version of Halloween came about with celebrations
Halloween developed more and more till the late 19th century when the phrase “trick or treat” came into the picture when immigrants came to America and asked people for food in return they would pray for the family's dead relatives. As you can see now people celebrate Halloween a little different now but better yet think of it more as a fun and silly night where you eat candy, get hyper and look at others people creative costumes to get inspired for next year to enjoy with friends and family.
