David Cook can sing. The boy can sing well. Phenomenally actually. He is what embodies the true American Idol. Over the course of the show he has been consistent and brings quality music every time he takes the stage. From day one Cook has been one of my favorites. I like his look, his talent, the whole package. Slowly but surely my favorites became narrowed down to one. David Cook. His song choice is always on point and he brings his own flavor into each and every song he sings. I'm sure it is tough some weeks to pick a song that truly shows your character and ability. But David Cook has managed to do that and do it well every week. Even on Mariah Carey night, when it could have been a bad night Cook brought it. Every time he sings he shows …show more content…

This has been true of the show from day one. Take Clay Aiken as an example, he was the runner up during season two of American Idol and he now has a great career. He lost to Ruben Studdard during the second season of the show and has actually done better than Ruben has. The show has even show that you do not even need any talent to become famous after being on American Idol. During season three William Hung was featured on the show singing the popular Ricky Martin song, "She Bangs" and he was way off key. After this bad performance Koch Entertainment actually signed him on for a record deal. After this deal he ended up making over $500,000 in sales. This proves that everyone is a winner on American Idol, which I am hoping will be the case with this years contestant David Cook. David Cook has shown us that he is an amazing singer and up until the season finale performance it was very hard to tell who would be this years American Idol. David Cook will definitely go further than American Idol because he is a great singer and knows how to work the crowd. The problem is that in American Idol song selection is key and last night on the American Idol Season 7 Finale David Cook did not choose the right songs to sing. To begin the evening David Cook sings "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2. This performance was not what I was looking for from David Cook, at best you could call it OK. The worst part of this performance was the final note, he just took it up too high and too long. Randy said that it was a great way to start the 2007 duel and Simon really disappointed me by saying considering how tense he looked at the beginning, he did a phenomenal job. He continued the show with "Dream Big" which had potential but Cook started off very shaky. Speculation is that he was shaken by Archuleta's performance which would explain the bad start. By the middle of the song he was back to singing as usual and did a great job.
