Since its advent, databases have been among the most researched knowledge domains in computer science. Database is a generic term used to connote the collection of similar or related information/data in an organized and integrated manner such that can be easily accessed managed and updated. Kroenke 2010 refers to database as a collection of tables plus relationships among rows in those tables, plus special data (metadata) that describes the structure of the database. From the above we can simply define database as a repository of data meant to facilitate efficient and effective data storage, retrieval, maintenance and dissemination.
How are they Used
As Faubl 2011 asserts, databases are mainly created for three core functions; to organize, store, and retrieve information in a more effective and efficient manner possible. Basically, this forms the foundation for the reason and how to use the database. To use database, first need to determine the purpose of the database you are intending to create, then collect and organize the required information, create the logic and physical data models. However, its areas of application are multidisciplinary and cut across various sectors of economic, social and political arenas upon which the three main functions are exercised. These areas of application may include but not limited to; Government to records information such as statistics, election information and tax records among others; Police for criminal records management; Banks to store, track and analyze all customers and their related transactions; Motor vehicle department to keep driver’s and vehicle’s records and history.

Changes are always made for the better to help improve schools, countries and organizations. This was what the Global Learning Charter Public School (G. L. C. P. S.) has done to the student Handbook from the years 2015-2016 (Document 1) to 2016-2017 (Document 2), in order to improve the school community. Recently the school has added gym attire but, it was only to be used on the days students had physical education. Later on, the gym attire rule changed, giving the high school students more privileges. When looking at both documents, it is noticeable that Document 2 was printed in a smaller font size.
