A time when the past played a very significant role in the present of this story, Krik? Krak! was when Danticat was being told the story about Célianne. How did she get pregnant? What was her story? She finally had her baby. She had a beautiful girl baby(in the words of Danticat). As Danticat got the information from Manman, everything started to make since. She got pregnant basically by rape. She was raped by someone she knew in her own home. He didn't want to do it but was forced to. He was held at gunpoint. What other choice did he have? She is 15 years old so she most likely was about 14 years of age, going on 15. No one really knows her conditions or what she did or endured. When she had her baby on the almost sinking ship…baby

Young women who are forced into marriage usually have little to no say on what rights they have, and their husbands take advantage of that. If these women do not want to have sex with them, they think it is their right so they rape them. As the girls have no rights and are seen as their husban...
Rape can happen to anyone. Women from different cultures, races, ages, and economic level are all vulnerable. It does not matter who you are or where you live, although women of lowest status are most vulnerable to rape, and so are Hispanic and African American women. (An...
This is the typical scenario were one would assume a rape to take place. When people think about rape, they usually think of a stranger with a knife hiding in the bushes. He waits for a woman to walk by and then attacks. However this is far from the truth. The majority of victims are raped by individuals they know or who are acquaintances. This type of rape is known as “acquaintance rape.” Eighty percent of all rapes are, in fact, acquaintance rapes. (CallRape) One kind of acquaintance rape is called “date rape,” in which a man and a woman go out on a date together and forces her to have sex when she does not want to. Date rapes typically occur when a woman is alone with a man. If a woman goes to a man's room or apartment, or even get into his car alone, she is vulnerable. Date rapes can also occur when others are relatively close by; for example, they can happen in an upstairs bedroom while fifty people attend a party on the first floor. Most girls don’t think to reach for mace or car keys in these situations. They don’t think about easy escape routes or who’s within shouting distance. We shouldn’t have to. Unfortunately it is an issue that needs to be discussed. Awareness is the most effective weapon women have against this horrible and often unreported crime.
I am a 19-year-old girl, far too old to think I know everything. I don’t pretend to be an expert on rape. Having known the feel of a cold blade pressed to my side gave me no superior understanding of the crime, only a small scar to remember it by. Thus I offer you no solution. I cannot say with any conviction that my writing will help to save even one person from being subjected to a similar fate. Before you’ve read to the bottom of this page three more girls will be sexually assaulted, one girl will be raped. Neither the eloquence of my words, nor the fervor of my voice will have changed a thing.
To be raped is to be sexually assaulted forcefully and unwillingly. According to the Uniform Crime reports, of all serious offenses, rape is probably “the most under reported crime.” Victims of rape are not only violated physically, they are violated mentally as well. It is a very traumatic experience that woman have to deal with for the remainder of their life. They usually incur symptoms of post-traumatic stress syndrome, stress disorders, fear, constant memories of the attack, a loss of confidence, and shame. (Mary E. Williams) These effects alter the victim’s life severely and can interfere with their day to day life and relationships. Being raped is a horrific crime that no woman should ever have to endure. In many cases victims of rape may become impregnated by the perpetrator leaving the victim to another form of violation. According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, at least 9,100 abortions each year are attributed to pregnancies that occur because of forced sexual intercourse. (Irin Carmon)
Karen was a bright respected young girl, who had everything going for her. She was co-valedictorian at her school and was now on her way to college. In the fall of 2001 Karen went off to the University of Wisconsin, with high hopes from her parents. She was the last person anyone expected to get pregnant, but, on January 29, that all changed.
A friend once told me the reason that she never wanted to have kids was because she got raped. In her early teenage years she got raped by a friend. She trusted this person and he took advantage of her. He made her feel like sex was a horrible experience and never let her forget of what happened that day. This friend is not close to her parents. When she told them what happened to her, they asked her “why did you spread your legs open for him?”. Those words stay in her memory forever and till this day she remembered that cruel moment. She could not believe that her parents thought that she was to blame for what happened to her. She then tried to commit suicide by cutting her veins. After this incident, her parents locked her up in a mental institution where she stood their for a while. This girl had no one by her side in this moment. No one knows what rape feels like until they experience it. They cannot just judge another person by the situation that they were put in.
