The painting that I have chosen for this assignment is called, Dance before a Fountain, also known as a fête galante, which is a French term referring to an elegant outdoor social event put on by rich aristocrats and reached its popularity in the eighteen-century in France. This artwork was created in 1724 by Nicolas Lancret and is located at the Getty Museum in Los Angles, California. I visited this museum on Saturday, January 14, 2017. I selected the Getty Museum for this assignment because of its extensive European and American art collections, ranging from medieval times to the modern era. Another great attribute of the Getty Museum is their breathtaking views overlooking the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area, Pacific Ocean, San Gabriel Mountains and beyond. They have amazing water fountains, gardens, and delicious eateries to enjoy. The artwork that I selected is an oil on canvas rich aristocracy celebration from the seventeen hundred. It reminds me of my own experience, from day to day, life passes us by so quickly. We forget to take time out to slow things down. We need to remind ourselves to have leisure in play. Wayne, transforms this painting into a three dimensional abstract piece of art. The focal point of the painting are the figures that look like letters and numbers that are in the front of the piece of art. This is where your eyes expend more time, also sometimes forgiving the background. The way the artist is trying to present this piece is showing happiness, excitement, and dreams. Happiness because he transmits with the bright colours. After probably 15 minutes on front of the painting I can feel that the artist tries to show his happiness, but in serene calm. The excitement that he presents with the letters, numbers and figures is a signal that he feels anxious about what the future is going to bring. Also in the way that the colors in the background are present he is showing that no matter how dark our day can be always will be light to

The oil on canvas painting by Thomas Cole named The Fountain of Vaucluse is a painting that is best appreciated in person. The painting is something that can’t be seen in just a few minutes to really take in all that it has to offer. The different emphasis on colors, and the use of 2D and 3D visual illustrations can be over-welling to the viewer. As I gazed upon the painting I found my viewpoint of interest change do to the altered landscape illusion that came into focus.
Here we also get to know that he is immortal and how he is not pleased with the painting he is obligated to paint. The painter also responds sorrowfully to the title of the mural, “The Happy Garden Of Life”, this shows us how the painter is also aware of the fact that it does not resemble the world they live in, so it is a metaphor for the world they live in. The location of the artwork was located on the 2nd floor of the museum. It was kind of difficult to find as it is not listed on the map. The painting is framed and placed near the corner of the entrance to another room. The artwork measured about 3 feet by 6 feet. It is placed near paintings of portraits. This was one of the reasons why I choose this painting. As soon as I walked into the room, it caught my eyes right away as not only was it different from the other artwork in the room but it also consisted of many colors in the paintings. It was also one of the biggest artwork in the room. The room itself was fairly large. There was enough lighting to get a good look at the art work but much dimmer compare to the other rooms. The lighting fits perfectly with the period. Every artwork in the room was spread out evenly with enough spacing between them. There were about 2 artworks near the center of the room but most of the artworks were hung up against the wall.
Unlike science, art is subjective. The artist leaves behind a part of himself in his work. Therefore, each piece has its own distinct perspective. Frida Kahlo’s self-portraits show her view on her life, on how she has faced so many struggles, yet managed to be a strong person. When we see or hear or read an artistic creation, it produces a mood such as calm or loud, fear or safety. For example, the Eiffel Tower gives Paris a majestic awe; everyone who passes by feels the strength of the 113-year-old grand structure. Art also has a texture. Photographs reveal much through their textures; grainy surfaces often make the picture more realistic while smooth ones seem softer. When we hear a piece of music or see a film, a rhythm carries us from one part to another. Not just true for these two genres, rhythm is present in any artistic work. These few properties are characteristic of everything we encounter in the world of art, the world of human expression. Most have other special features also. Most of the time, though, we do not think about these characteristics because we do not have enough time to pay attention to anything for more than a few seconds.
Everyone had a reason, to do whatever was needed. The value of art is to render the extraordinary brilliance of peoples’ lives; to relate to the lives of others in the society. The unique purpose of art is to provide an exhilarating touch of love, sorrow, warmth, depth, and happiness to the soul and heart. The value of art, both personal and monetary; the hard work of great art is very self- rewarding and gives a great sense of accomplishment. Monetarily speaking, an artist such as Vermeer must paint in order to make a living and support his family of 11 children, “And there were other debts.”

As I read this work of art, my mind was transported to my favorite place in the outdoors. My imagination was filled with the waving of the tall grass, the stillness of the trees, and the feeling that time is standing still and I’m the only one who notices. For example, it sparked the idea, or memory, of how much I love nature and the outdoors, and the great sense of peace it brings to me. In an instant, it showed me how far I had drifted from that mindset.
Wherever man lives there is art, because art is anything made or done by man that affects or moves us so that we feel and see beauty. Man uses his imagination to invent a unique beauty. The artist's feelings and inspiration affects on how he will express his art.
Human’s have always struggled to express themselves. Art, is considered by many to be the ultimate form of human expression. Many assume that art has a definition, but this is not the case. Art, it can be said, is “in the eye of the beholder.” This simply means that what you consider art, someone else would not. Art is part of a person’s internal emotions, which signifies why different people see art as different things. Every type of culture and era presents distinctive and unique characteristics. Different cultures all have different views of what art can, and would be, causing art itself to be universally renowned throughout the world.
