The painting that I have chosen for this assignment is called, Dance before a Fountain, also known as a fête galante, which is a French term referring to an elegant outdoor social event put on by rich aristocrats and reached its popularity in the eighteen-century in France. This artwork was created in 1724 by Nicolas Lancret and is located at the Getty Museum in Los Angles, California. I visited this museum on Saturday, January 14, 2017. I selected the Getty Museum for this assignment because of its extensive European and American art collections, ranging from medieval times to the modern era. Another great attribute of the Getty Museum is their breathtaking views overlooking the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area, Pacific Ocean, San Gabriel Mountains and beyond. They have amazing water fountains, gardens, and delicious eateries to enjoy. The artwork that I selected is an oil on canvas rich aristocracy celebration from the seventeen hundred. In this celebration, one can see rich aristocrats socializing with music, people dancing, children playing, men and women flirting, and a man with a guitar, serenating a woman and enjoying each other’s company on a beautiful spring day surrounded by big green trees and a water fountain splashing, that creates an enjoyable atmosphere in a country landscape setting. …show more content…
