How long do you think you will live on this earth? Most of us will pause and think before answering the question. Think about our health, our family health history, and how long our grandparents lived or are living. The average American male lives to be seventy years old and the average female will live to be eighty years old. In twenty-first century, most American have knowledge, technology, a great health care system and clean water. Why isn’t a modern country like America on the top of the “Blue Zones” list? In Dan Buettners (2009) video speech, “How to live to 100+”, He talks about three specific places he called “Blue Zones” where people are living beyond the age of 100.
Dan Buettner is an “American educator, public speaker, and National Geographic and New York Times bestselling author.” (GALLAGHER, T.). He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1960. Buttner grew up in a family that spent a lot of time outdoors doing different outdoor activities like, hunting, gardening, and camping. He teamed up with National Geographic, and the National Institute on Aging “to find the four demographically confirmed areas that are geographically defined” but he was able to find only three regions or Blue Zones.

This place is where the oldest female population is located. They have a very long life with good mental and physical health, and a peaceful and very quick death, what we all want. These Okinawa women use a plant-based diet just like Sardinian. Also, the main key for these women to live a long life is that they have a very strong system of friendship. Buettner (2009) said “If you were born in Okinawa, you were born into a system where you have a half dozen friends who you travel through life with” (Buettner Ted Talk).
