Damon and Pythias were always there for each other even when someone came between them in a life and death situation. That is the life lesson you learned from the story. Always be there for people when they need you most even if something tries to get in the way. Pythias spoke out against the king and the king sentenced Pythias to death after 2 weeks after being in jail. Damon after hearing this news came to help. He begged the king to let Pythias visit his family and he will take over and if Pythias doesn’t come back he will die for him. On page 329 when Pythias came back minutes before Damon could have died. Damon said to Pythias, “I would have gladly died for you.” Damon saying this means he would do anything just to help him out even …show more content…

When he came back the king addressed the crowd and the friends. The king said, “But I cannot kill any man who proves such a strong and true friendship for each other.” He let both of the boys go instead of killing them. The king had noticed this relationship and decided even though he was trying to come between them and kill one of them, he couldn’t break that strong bond. In the beginning, when Damon was begging the king, Damon said, “I have faith in my friend.” The king although, did not believe him and told him no one would come back but Damon truly had faith and knew Pythias would hold his word. Pythias didn’t want Damon to take this risk but he did anyway since they are true friends. Damon was doing an immense favor for Pythias. Damon took the risk because they were friends. He showed all of these things in his actions and words. He had taken many risks. Pythias pushed through to keep his word showing his was a devoted friend. Most people wouldn’t do this for just anyone. It has to be for someone they truly care about deep down. Someone special to them. Almost like family to them. They had each other’s back in this situation. Taking this risk could not have been an easy task. This is what true friends do, always be there for each other even if something like death comes between
