Epilepsy is a disorder regarded as by recurring seizures (also known as “seizure disorder). About 3 million Americans have epilepsy. In about 70% of people with epilepsy, the cause is not known. In the remaining 30%, the most common causes are head trauma, brain tumor, lead poisoning, infection of brain tissue or heredity. Dae Shaun who has epilepsy is one of these cases and the cause for his epilepsy is head trauma. It is one of kinds of brain injury caused by trauma.

Dae Shaun got a hit very hard on the metal in bed when he was asleep at 2 years old. Mom heard gasping sound at the middle of the night. The paramedics were called and he was sent into the hospital by a helicopter immediately since he got hit so hard and lost his breath at that moment. …show more content…

Later, the doctor discovered that blood had dried onto his brain which caused epilepsy. He was in the hospital for a month. The doctor suggested the surgery. It is one of the choices for the parents. Since parents thought the surgery is risky, they didn't get through with the surgery. Until today, D still takes medications twice daily to reduce the onset of epileptic episodes. The two medications are Tegretol and Keppra. There are no side effects from taking the medications such as sleeping or nauseous. To avoid having seizures, Dae Shaun needs to stay out of the sun and should remember to take his medication
