The Culture of Honduras
A nation is made of multiple things to make it what it is. A nation is made up from it’s a military, its government, its citizens, and its culture. This can be the difference between a country being considered third world or a powerhouse. The purpose of this essay to become more culturally aware, understanding, and experts on the country of Honduras. This will include different aspects such as its military, the type of government Honduras has, the culture amongst its people, what type of structures are built, religion, etc. Having a good understanding of these different areas will make you more culturally aware, understanding, and experts on what make Honduras the nation that it is today.

Honduras is not known for its wealth, so you will not see huge skyscrapers or huge extravagant building like one would see in New York City, Chicago, etc. The type of housing you will see in Honduras is not fancy as well. Houses are made with simple materials, “in the cities, houses are made of store-bought materials (bricks, cement, etc.)” (Honduras, n.d.). For the poorer families, houses are made “of local materials, with floors of packed earth, walls of adobe or wattle and daub, and roofs of clay tiles or thatch” (Honduras, …show more content…

A lot of the economic prosperity is gained from farming. Over fifty percent of the people work in agriculture (Honduras, n.d.). Farmers in Honduras first grow crops for themselves and their families, then they grow crops to sell and make money. They grow simple crops like, “maize (corn), beans, and plantains” (Honduras, n.d.). They then “raise a cash crop of coffee, cattle, cabbage, tomatoes, citrus fruit, maize, beans, or other vegetables” (Honduras, n.d.). The United States has even helped with a steady donation of wheat. To go along with the internal economy, you have to look at what Honduras exports to truly see the economic reaches of Honduras. A country can grow if it can export high in demand products. But Honduras is a smaller country and does not have the means to export many things other than fruits, etc. The many types of products Honduras exports include, “coffee, beef, bananas, melons, shrimp, pineapple, palm oil, timber, and clothing” (Honduras, n.d.).
