Albania, which is officially known as the Republic of Albania, is one of the countries located in the Balkans and, more specifically, at the south-east of the peninsula; the Adriatic Sea also bounds the country on the west. While it is rightly believed that the Balkans is a knot where the civilizations of East and West had crossed, firstly it is a reference to Albania due to its convenient sea harbors and location on the trade routes from the sea deep into the peninsula. As a result, Albania and its people have experienced colonization, wars, endless changes of administrative boundaries (that did not coincide with ethnic metes) and political struggles.

Naturally, in consequence of the long history, Albania’s culture was influenced by the ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Slavs (mainly Serbs) as it can be seen in the iconography and architecture. In the Middle Ages Albanian culture was under strong Turkish influence, which is understandable, as the area was part of the Ottoman Empire during this time. In paintings, mosaics and frescoes the obvious influence of Islam is traced.
In addition, during the Middle Ages the Albanian culture was appreciably affected by the Italians (for instance, Venice laid its claims on some Albanian cities), who have been considered the territory of modern Albania their «patrimony» for a long time. Today, modern fashion is largely set on Italy, which is evident in both everyday clothes and official clothes.
On the whole, cultural life of Albania can be described as active. Various folk cultural events, opera and theater performances are held in many cities. Though all Albanians possess hospitality, diligence, tolerance, it should be noted that within little Albania (that is of 28 thousand square kilometers), cultural traditions and customs are diverse in different parts of the country. It is no need to say that Bektashi leaders were of a very high intellect and they managed to survive the both disasters that happened. One can see that their diplomacy and knowledge’s were at a very high standard. The Armenians are a group of people that originated from tribes in the Armenian highlands around 10,00 B.C (1). In the 4th century they developed into a separate culture related to their religion which was christianity (1). Later on he Armenian civilization was controlled by the Ottoman Empire (1). The Empire consisted of many cultures and ethnic groups, but the Armenians were somewhat at the bottom of the social class. Because of the social minority, they were assigned to millets, or small communities based on religion and political views. (2) Within these millets, there were sets of rules and regulations that normally did not interfere with the big picture (1). Other ethnic groups in the Empire shared the same religion (Muslim) as the leaders of the Empire, who were Turkish. This promoted their social rank or status with the leaders. The Armenians had it differently. They were treated with less respect, and this started problems within the Empire.

To determine the political factors that contributed to Albanian nationalism, this investigation will focus on the aftermath of the breakup of Yugoslavia, the social landscape of Kosovo after the breakup and the Kosovo Crisis of 1999. The views of the Albanians and Serbs will be examined to help develop a more contextual understanding of the rise of Albanian nationalism. Only the events that are relevant to the Kosovo War will be explored in this investigation.

Many people would not believe that there are so many similarities between modern day fashion and the fashion of the renaissance time period. Many differences may be seen between the two, but the similarities are remarkable. Throughout all of time, clothing has been the major representation of social classes. What people wear has always been the distinguishing factor between the wealthy and the poor classes of both the renaissance and current time period. The evolution from time period to time period has been vast, but the fact that what people wear represents what class they reside in is still very prevalent. From the fabrics, jewels, and accessories, you can still see many similarities from the renaissance time period to the current time period. “…much of what we know about historical dress comes from the apparel of the elite.” (Sauro) Although much time has progressed, fashion from the renaissance period has held a strong influence on the fashion in today’s society.
