Globalisation has impacted people all over the world in many ways. It is a process of interaction and integration amongst the companies, governments and people of different nations, operating on an international scale. Many people around the world are questioning the impact of globalisation on their personal identity, specifically their culture - the ideas, practices and social behaviour of a particular group of people or a society. Cultural globalisation refers to the transmission of ideas, meanings and values globally in a way that includes and intensifies social relations. Globalisation has brought about many opportunities for cultural exchange of products and services such as music, movies, services, etc. These cultural exchanges further expand the exposure of societies to foreign cultures, which can aid in the promotion of tolerance and diversity amongst the different cultures. Furthermore, the exposure provided brings knowledge and makes the different cultures more aware about foreign cultures. People are able to gain greater exposure through the news media, which globalisation has made possible. Someone who heard about a tragic event occurring overseas by word of mouth could not have had that much of an emotional impact as compared to reading or watching about it through the news media. My point being that with a greater global connection, we are able to better understand and gain awareness of the different events around the world and thus globalisation leads to greater exposure amongst the different cultures.

People have the great subjectivity and ability to change and create culture, however with globalisation in the picture, comes many benefits and challenges. The main effect of globalisation on culture is still unclear, due to different perspectives on the subject by people. Even without the factual understanding on whether globalisation is more positive or negative, we still have a few concepts. These concepts in which I have discussed in my essay is that globalisation on culture leads to a greater influence of dominant cultures on the less dominant ones, and the loss of languages.
